We had to stay one night with the family in this friendly hostel and had to cancel our stay at the last moment.
The lady I had on the phone was very understanding, understood my embarrassment and was kind enough to cancel, less than 48 hours before the deadline, our free reservation.
Thanks again to the Saint Simond hostel for the hospitality worthy of the establishment's standing!

Worst experience in my hotel career
Clear traces of urine on the bed cover, door to the bed cannot be closed because the room is too small, toilet so narrow that you can hardly move, shower without a door, generally very dirty room with lots of damage to the ceilings and walls
Mattresses were worn through.
Lake room has a good view, but location is only average because it is about 3 km from the town.
We paid 350 euros for 2 nights with breakfast. Not even half of that would be justified.

Rooms are a bit dated.
Brown blankets with a white "cover" are not inviting for cuddling.
Rooms are not particularly clean, bathroom is very small.
Staff are very nice, breakfast is delicious.
Enough to get through one night.
Free parking, pool and terrace were available.

It is unusual for me to review accommodation, but I felt I must make an exception for this establishment so as to warn my followers should you be considering stopping here.
I was on my way back to Blighty having had a wonderful three week in the south, I selected this modest hotel as had I heard the restaurant was good as often Auberges are. Whilst I knew the restuarant was shut on the evening we arrived our stay was for two nights and I had already selected the other restaurant an old favourite of mine.
We arrived at 4pm and the sun had followed us and it was still 25 degrees, so imagine my surprise to find that the pool was shut and locked, the surprises did not stop there as we checked in we told that our previously requested room upgrade had not been possible but that the boss was now able to upgrade us to two rooms in the annexe outside of the hotel, we then found out why. We were the only guests staying apart for a couple of elderly long term residence. The hotel was in fact closing after our check in.
We were given our keys and told that in an emergency call this number and someone would come to the hotel.
The rooms were tired and one had not been cleaned the whole hotel needs some care, there was a noisy sleep inhibiting extractor fan in one room that would not go off. obviously I did not feel inclined to eat there the following night but don't despair the staff are quite charming they apologise very well all the practice they get no doubt their apologies were not I fear sincere, my recommendation to you however are DO NOT VISIT HERE !

When I called for a reservation at the Auberge Saint Simond, I knew I was going to be well received at this family operated establishment. It is run by the Mattana's family with father Lucien in the kitchen, his wife Paola running the rest of the house, and their son helping out in both areas. Trees plentifully shade the property and there is ample parking. I was given a room that adjoins a veranda, and was spacious enough for two with many TV channels and a hot water radiator for heating which I greatly prefer to the blowing hot air found in the majority of modern hotels. And, Wi Fi comes across vigorously on your laptop. The restaurant is highly respected and had just being featured in "La vie nouvelle," a weekly magazine that caters to connoisseurs in Savoie. On my first visit, Michel the maitre d', suggesteda turbot, and not being an amateur when it comes to fish, I took his advice. It was delicious, moist, and covered in crumbs with a sweet touch that enriched it immensely. For a starter, I had an assiette of raw ham that I rank second in my world preferences only to my favorite "pata Negra" of Spain. If you ever visit the Saint Simond, I recommend that you try the rack of lamb with thyme, or whitefish braised in white Savoie wine. For dessert, do not miss the souffle glace. And, if you are a cheese lover, go for fromage blanc a la creme. Tomorrow, I am going back to try the magret de canard (duck) with orange sauce. I will have the Alsace wine that goes perfectly with it and then the creme brulee for dessert, and I am sure I will not be disappointed.
