The food is traditional Savoyard and so very appropriate to the cold weather (tartiflette etc) and was very tasty (though hopefully they change the...

We booked a table in advance to avoid disappointment however that was the only part that worked out. It was very cold and we waited for 1 hour for our food. Starters for those having them came with the rest of the mains, when the mains eventually came they where cold. Generally very poor all round...

Took the train up, toured the ice cave and then grabbed a table on the terrace with a view of the "Mer de Glas" glacier. Much better and more relaxing than the fast food served elsewhere in the area. Service is friendly,...

We arrived at the Grand Hotel the hard way. The walk round the mountain from Plan d'Aguilles is an easy walk in summer. In early June, we found the path with 50% snow cover along its length, and going from rock, to mud, to snow and back again, it was hard to get into a stride. Couple this with temperaturse...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Perched on the Mont-Blanc to 6725 feet above sea level, with a view overlooking the Mer de Glace and mythical Aiguille des Drus, the Montenvers Refuge is a place of history and authenticity. Built in 1880 to accommodate the first mountaineers and travelers who came to visit the Mer de Glace, this high mountain refuge will agin see new life in 2017 following an extensive renovation by the Maisons et Hotels Sibuet label, a pioneer in the mountain hotel business for over 30 years. The historical charm of the site, as well as the Refuge spirit seep into the unconscious of each visitor: inviting a place of sharing, simplicity, authenticity and homecoming. ... more   less
