A very nice team. The decoration by Jacques Grange is magnificent and really very comfortable. The rooms are very well soundproofed so it is quiet. Hard to choose between the garden view and the view of Lyon. Both are beautiful.
The swimming pool is particularly pleasant.
We also had a great time at the bar.
The location of the hotel a few minutes from Old Lyon is very pleasant.
In short, a great address!

My stay at this 5 star hotel was a mixed experience. Although the establishment offers impeccable service in many aspects, I was disappointed by some points.

The Spa, unfortunately, did not meet the expectations I have for a hotel of this category. The facilities seemed aging and the service was not up to the excellence I was hoping for.

The breakfast, although varied, didn't really impress me in terms of quality. I expected more refined dishes for a 5-star hotel.

As for the decor, I thought the hotel could offer a more luxurious and contemporary ambiance. The decor did not seem to be up to the standard of an establishment of this class.

Furthermore, the exorbitant prices charged for these services are difficult to justify. 900 euros for a night I expected a more balanced quality-price ratio, and I was surprised by the high cost of each service.

However, it is important to note that the customer service was exceptional, and the staff was always ready to accommodate our needs. I hope that these constructive comments will help the hotel to reconsider its rates and improve its facilities to provide an experience more in line with the expectations of a 5-star hotel.

An exceptional property located 300 meters above the Rhone and Saone rivers, with a commanding view of Lyon. The property is 7 years old, but is in virtually the same condition it must have been upon opening. A small boutique hotel, but with all of the amenities of a large property. Exceptionally responsive Concierge Team. Complimentary breakfast delivered in room (via Leading Hotels of the World) was varied every day. The property is built above the original Roman location. Steps from stunning a Roman Amphitheater. Easy access to old Lyon via a funicular.

The location of the hotel is completely unsuitable for access to the beautiful city of Lyon on foot or by car. The overpriced garage space does not have direct access to the hotel for guests. The rooms in the hotel are, however, attractively designed and inviting. The rooms are relatively simple, there is no small table. The indoor pool with thermal bath is quite large and we were impressed. Unfortunately, the 5-star hotel is noticeably stingy. No welcome drink, coffee machine in the room only on request and without a little sweet treat, no flowers, very small minibar, only a very simple restaurant, in the spa only a single towel per person on request, the simple garden in the courtyard offers no seating, etc. The modest breakfast with mediocre quality of the food is also overpriced. The price-performance ratio is generally pretty bad here. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Situated at the top of a hill, the Villa Maia has a sweeping view of the city. The hotel property is beautiful with a bar, several seating areas to enjoy, as well as a relaxing garden area. Our room was very comfortable, well appointed (including a small, complementary minibar and bottled water), and the view was so nice we decided to cancel our dinner plans to eat on our balcony overlooking the city. The hotel staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very pampered.

I would like to share my disappointment following my recent booking experience at the Villa. Unfortunately, this disappointment started even before I arrived at the establishment. Despite my reservation at a specific time, with assurance of availability by the employee on the phone, I was informed a day later that the place had already been assigned to someone else.
When I requested a price for a duo treatment, I was confirmed the price displayed on the website without mentioning that it excluded access to the spa. Repeated email exchanges, marked by a lack of precise information, ultimately revealed an additional fee of 50 euros per person for access to the spa. This experience does not meet the 5 star level of service according to my criteria.
The settlement process also proved to be a failure.
I hope my feedback can help improve the booking process and communication for future guests. Despite this disappointment, I hope that my future stay will be more in line with my initial expectations. I realize the importance of being more precise in my requests and note that more transparent communication would have avoided this confusion around the offer.

This is such a wonderful gem of a hotel, it makes Lyon feel like a holiday home almost immediately. The front desk staff was only too happy to open the door to greet you, they are located in their own cozy corner on the ground floor, rather spartan because everything else - bar, breakfast spot, cocktail lounge - is up the stairs.
The hotel may look deceptively quiet but we have stayed in such places where you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, when actually, it does have other hotel guests.

Perched on the ancient Fourviere hills and two minutes down the slope from the Roman amphitheatre, the location is within walking distance to the Notre Dame as well as the funicular down to Vieux Lyon.
The pool is really relaxing after a whole day of exploring the walking city, and has a fabulous spa of steam and sauna and massage services (book ahead).
We checked in slightly earlier and were redirected to the cafe with a wide view of the city and rivers. Food was excellent.
The concierge team is very friendly - Francois, Julien and Alvaro can quickly suggest and advise and research for you. Francois sorted out a dinner reservation for me where I had booked the wrong date and purchased extra meal vouchers.
A really lovely time, we are telling everyone to go to Lyon now.

The hotel is located on the heights of Old Lyon. A few meters away, at the bottom of the hotel, a belvedere offers a superb view of the city. The staff are charming and professional. The room is spacious and very functional with a large balcony overlooking the garden. Very calm. Good bedding. Very pleasant spa but some pieces of mosaic come loose in the jacuzzi. A clock would be welcome. Mixed breakfast especially for 35€: The pastries, the cake and the cured ham are very good but the boiled egg arrived almost hard-boiled and the fruit salad was tasteless. These are details that are not 5* level.
A little high quality/price ratio.

Have stayed in this hotel at least a dozen times in the past two years. Unfortunately the hotel, like so many supposed Five star hotels these days, really struggles to get to five star level. There are many four star hotels in the region that arguably of better facilities.
Service and atmosphere at the hotel is good. The food offer is limited by no evening restaurant other than an association with an adjacent Michelin star restaurant. A set menu is offered for room service which is to the usual good French Standard. There are also basic snack options. The breakfast buffet really is not up to scratch. The offering is extremely limited.
Rooms are sparsely laid out with the dreaded nouveau window between the bathroom and bedroom, which has become very en vogue amongst independent hoteliers. There is a work desk, reading chair and outdoor seating in all rooms. The beds are latex and medium/firm. The decor is neutral but tasteful and not bland. There is plenty of storage. Ironing boards are available on request. As usual in France the air-conditioning barely works.
The hotel has a lovely indoor pool with excellent facilities. The Gym is a broom closet. There is not a spa as at the last visit.
The hotel has parking, but it is cramped, difficult to access and excessively expensive. The hotel in general has become difficult to access due to some municipal traffic initiatives.
Overall the hotel really doesn't make the grade. It offers inadequate value for its price and category as a result of skimping where it matters.

I have never enjoyed my stay at a hotel as much as I did at Villa Maia. The concierge team greeted me with a smile and they knew my name the moment I walked in. They suggested restaurant recommendations and were able to get me into a highly coveted restaurant a few hours later on the same day. Because I booked through amex FHR collection, they gave me $100 USD dining credit which I used for two amazing meals at the bar. They upgraded me to a city view room overlooking the beautiful Vieux Lyon and allowed me to check in early and check out late. The spa facilities were also an excellent way to relax after a long day out. It's located just a short 10-15min uphill walk from the Vieux Lyon; centrally located yet away from the bustle. I loved how quiet and peaceful the hotel is and how attentive yet unobtrusive the hotel staff are. Highly recommend for everyone visiting Lyon!
