InterContinental Lyon - Hotel Dieu is at the heart of the Peninsula of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in a landmark building originally dating back to the 18th century, our hotel offers magical views on the Rhône river, the basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere, our historical courtyards, and the city of Lyon. Indulge in rejuvenation at The Cinq Mondes Spa or enjoy the gastronomy for which Lyon is famous both around the city and at our own signature establishment, Epona.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Overall this hotel was really nice. It looks modern and well kept, the bedding is clean, rooms very nice overall. There are universal chargers so even my UK one fitted, spare bed was available upon request and was clean and as a bonus, they even give tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Service was really good, very kind and informative. There were only a few slip ups which were the card machine not working and recommendation to go to Le Paradis du Fruit for lunch, which was atrocious. All members of housekeeping were great, I did not meet one obnoxious one and all of them spoke english however, I believe that they could tidy up the rooms more instead of just making bed. Gym is awful do NOT come here to exercise it is small and barely has any machines. Breakfast is good however make sure to come down early at 9-9:30 as it really fills up and you do not want to be queuing. I highly reccomend this hotel and believe this is the best on in Lyon.

This hotel is architecturally stunning. The way they have used the huge outdoor space in the centre to house restaurants, bars and gardens makes for a wonderfully vibrant area. The hotel is converted from a hospital and, unfortunately, our first room reminded me vey much of a hospital room I had recently been in. Tiny with dark grey walls and a utilitarian bathroom. A very nice lady at reception looked for alternatives for us and, for a small extra charge, we were moved to a lovely suit. Very spacious with seperate large sitting room and wonderful bathroom. No river views but we enjoyed the views of the terracotta tiled roofs. Still grey colour palette everywhere though - carpets, sofas, walls - at least light grey this time. Breakfast service was perfunctory but adequate. The hotel is perfectly situated for walking to most sights and eating in the central courtyard is a delight.

Dear Madam, We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave us this very nice note and your comment following your stay in Lyon. Our hotel is located in the Grand Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital that has been transformed into a place where the people of Lyon and travellers from all over the world can come and enjoy the beauty of its surroundings. In order to pay homage to the past of the site, the interior designer created a monacal and precious decoration. We are delighted that the second room proposed by our team met your expectations. The view over Lyon's rooftops is charming. We look forward to welcoming you back to the heart of the city. Sincerely yours, Madelijn Vervoord, General Manager

Amazingly beautiful, service-oriented hotel on the river. I had the opportunity to stay for 2 nights on business. My arrival was delayed due to flight changes but was met warmly by the front staff who were waiting for my arrival - at midnight. Check-in was efficient, professional and attentive - the staff on duty provided a quick description of the lay of this large hotel ad guided me to the relevant elevators to my room. Accessing the room required passing through a couple of card-enabled access only entrances that provides good security for those who may need this feature. Assigned room was wonderful - it was large, modern, adorned with nice furnishings, a great bed and that was able to be sufficiently cooled to counter the 31 C temperature outside. There were ample outlets for charging peripherals and lighting controls were easy and convenient to use; wifi signal was also great. Bathroom was "large" by European standards - but water pressure was a little low and the sink a trifle small. Room came with a luxurious bathrobe (much appreciated) and slippers that don't require I work hard to slip-on. Ate breakfast at the Epona (with nice outside sitting in a courtyard) - staff were great as was the food offerings. I also partook in room service - again the staff was great, the food arrived promptly, The hotel is also adjacent to a number of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants for those who don't have the opportunity to stray far. I really liked this establishment and will revisit if afforded the opportunity.

Our visit to Lyon was marked by temperatures that were sometimes spring-like, but sometimes quite wintry. This cool weather meant that there were not too many tourists in the city and the InterContinental Lyon was not very busy either.
Check-in went smoothly in the Club Lounge. As an upgrade, we were allocated a duplex suite with a view of the Rhône, where a bottle of champagne was waiting for us as a welcome. This type of room category is spread over two levels, with the upper living area first, then a long staircase leads to the lower sleeping area and the spacious bathroom. The room, like all other areas of the hotel, is very tastefully furnished with an ultra-modern design. Architects and designers were able to show what they can do in this hotel; and they succeeded. The beds are fantastically comfortable, the bed linen is of high quality. All curtains are electrically operated. Thanks to the soundproof windows, you don't notice any of the traffic on the road along the Rhône. The air conditioning also worked perfectly.
Since the hotel only has 144 rooms (including suites), you could almost call it a boutique hotel. The service is very personal and tailored to the guest. As part of a former hospital complex, the entire complex also houses a number of shops, restaurants, a museum, etc. The spa in this ensemble, to which InterContinental guests have free entry, is operated by an external company and is about a minute's walk from the hotel. In addition to massage options, it has a dry and steam sauna as well as relaxation options.
One of the highlights for us was the hotel's club lounge, which we had access to due to our status. Here, champagne, wine, beer and other cold or hot drinks await guests in the evenings in a very tasteful atmosphere. While breakfast is currently not taken in the lounge but in the Epona Restaurant, you can visit the lounge in the afternoon for coffee, tea, juices and cakes and in the evening you can also enjoy cold canapés from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A greater variety in the canapés would be desirable.
Due to its location in the middle of the city in the 2nd arrondissement between the Rhône and Saône, the Hotel InterContinental Lyon - Hôtel Dieu is an ideal starting point for walks. If you are a good walker, you can easily reach the inner city areas, including all train stations, on foot, without having to use public transport.
We really enjoyed the city and the hotel. We would like to thank the capable management and its staff (especially in the Club Lounge) for the successful stay in Lyon.

From check in to check out everything we needed from a hotel on our arrival to France!
Very professional check in, they handle everything, whisk your luggage away while you’re seated with a drink and check in. Make dinner reservations, offer Lyon suggestions, make change to smaller € without hesitation & then off to room where valet is ready with luggage (no waiting for it after 24hrs of flights) and he went over room tips.
Security is the best of any hotel we’ve stayed in to get to your room. Key on elevator to get to floor, key to open room wing, again to open room section & then your door. Might bother some but I liked it.
Location is perfect for exploring. It’s almost a mini-city in itself with surrounding restaurants & shops.
Room was very chic & comfortable. Very high ceilings made room seem huge. Great bed, pillows, and quiet. Plenty of towels, good housekeeping when needed. Last morning room service delivered at scheduled time & HOT! 👏🏻
Only con was restaurant, not a great dinner or breakfast experience.
We walked before check out to pick up rental car & returned with it, went up to room got luggage, they put it in car gave us waters & driving suggestions & viola we were off in a few minutes checked out. Would return in a heartbeat!

We stayed for one night on our way to the Alps for a well-deserved ski vacation. It was certainly not a hardship to stay at the IHG. It was our first time at this hotel. Since we haven't built up any status, we usually stay at Marriott or Hilton properties. If there isn't a good Hilton or Marriott at the location we're heading to, we'll definitely book IHG more often.
Regarding the hotel, the rooms are beautifully decorated with extremely high ceilings. The staff is attentive and goes the extra mile. We stayed here with our 6-month-old baby, and they boil special mineral water for the baby. That's what I call attentive and excellent service! The breakfast may not be very extensive, but the choices available are of very high quality. So, you'll definitely find something you like. The location is fantastic, with everything nearby, and taking a walk across the river in the evening is definitely worth it as the hotel is beautifully lit. We know for sure that we'll be back next year when we go skiing.

Fabulous location on the Rhone River with easy walking distance to most restaurants, sights, and shopping. Though on a busier street, hotel was very quiet, no noise and we felt very safe. Check-in was efficient, informative, and friendly. We used American Express and received a room upgrade with $85 hotel credit. Our suite was two levels facing the river with great views. The top level had a couch, desk, closet, fridge with drinks, Nespresso and complimentary still and sparkling water. Lower level was the bedroom and well-equipped bathroom. Wi-fi was very good and there were USB ports at bedside. Breakfast, included in our rate, was an excellent buffet with a wide selectin of hot and cold dishes, excellent pastries and great coffee. Overall service throughout the hotel was professional, helpful and friendly. Would absolutely stay here when we return to Lyon.

We chose InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu to celebrate our 40th anniversary and it was a great decision.
As Ambassador members we received a very warm welcome from Monsieur Missen who upgraded us to a fabulous Duplex Suite with complimentary bubbles, biscuits, chocolates and soft drinks.
The warmth and welcome made us feel Romain Bosc, the hotel Manager, and his team valued our loyalty and status especially as we had already stayed many times in 17 different Intercontinental hotel across the world. We appreciated the recognition of our loyalty.
The hotel is an architectural delight that has to be experienced to be appreciated even after looking at the website information and reading many articles about its history and features. We have already recommended it to friends who appreciate luxury, character and personal service.
The Duplex suite was luxurious with 6 meter tall window with views of the Rhone, large comfortable bed, higher level sitting room with same view and an extra large bathroom with dual sinks, standalone couples tub and a large high power shower room. There are many hotels in Europe with bedrooms smaller than this bathroom.
The Dome Bar is another stunning area with a 32 meter high ceiling and friendly attentive service.
The team behind InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu which I understand included Madelijn Vervoord, the overall head of Intercontinental Hotels in France, have done an amazing job converting the historic hospital building dating back to the 15th century into a modern masterpiece that is definitely worth experiencing.
Thank you Romain Bosc and your team, especially Monsieur Missen, for a memorable experience.

I came here on my honeymoon and booked through Amex’s fine hotels which got us a lovely room upgrade, breakfast, and a site credit which we used for drinks at Le Dome! The hotel is stunning and the staff was phenomenal until the last day. We also enjoyed dinner at Epona which was delicious, and their breakfast buffet was wonderful as well. The way they preserved original parts of the building was so cool and we did truly enjoy our stay until the last day when the wheels fell off.
As part of the Amex FHR program, we were given a guaranteed 4pm check out. Not only do we have this on two welcome letters from the property but it was also verbally confirmed upon checking in. Because of this, we planned our last day in Lyon around that timing. At 12:30 we received a call from the front desk asking what time we would be leaving and I said about 3:30 or so as we have a 4pm check out time. The man informed me they were fully booked that evening and needed the room and someone would be up to help us with our bags at 1, they would give us club access and then hung up before I could really say anything else. So my husband and I had to scramble to get packed and ready to leave in 30 minutes time and were not even given an apology for the inconvenience of essentially being kicked out 3 hours early. Truly I don’t think it would have bothered us nearly as much if we were given any more than a 30 minute heads up. We left our bags with the hotel as we went to the club lounge to try to see if we could change our transport since the timeline was now so different and when we left it also took them 20 minutes to find our bags- not a huge deal but frustrating none the less.
We contacted Amex travel about the FHR guaranteed benefits not being met and they attempted to reach out to the hotel to see what was going on. The Amex agent then told us when he finally got through to the desk, he was hung up on. No further calls were successful and all other communication attempts between Amex and the Intercontinental were not responded to which is a little crazy and wildly unprofessional.
Overall a beautiful property, but the final events soured the experience a little.
