We booked 4 nights at Villa Florentine, including the evening of December 31, 2024, to discover the city of Lyon. First of all, we particularly enjoyed the welcome on arrival. We were immediately taken care of by the staff who took care of our car, our luggage and offered us a welcome glass of champagne. We were then accompanied to our junior suite, number 8, which met exactly our expectations (thank you Audrey who took care of our booking and took our requests into account). The view was absolutely splendid, the room spacious and comfortable. We also want to improve the quality of service and cleanliness of the room. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. We also spent a pleasant evening on the 31st at the hotel restaurant. The menu was of high quality and we appreciated the waiter who took care of the wines and who advised us very well, even if it was very busy. We also enjoyed the service of the young waiter, who also seemed a little overwhelmed compared to other employees. (Perhaps there is room for improvement because we waited long enough to get a taste of our bottle of red wine, which remained open for a long time on our table.) We were also surprised that there was no countdown to the new year, and a small glass of champagne or prosecco offered would have been welcome, served with the staff in order to pass this milestone with dignity, but perhaps it is not done in France? (As is done in Switzerland in the hotels we stayed at). But this in no way tainted our magnificent stay. We will just add that it would be nice to have a little more room in the bathroom to put our things down (Beauty case, etc.). It is a very pleasant hotel, a haven of peace, with a beautiful history.

We spent 3 nights in two rooms at Villa Florentine just before Easter.

What a marvelous hotel. The attention to detail and the personal level of service was beyond expectation.

The hotel is beautiful. The lobby area is a great place to get drinks, and if you visit later in the year, you would be able to take advantage of having a drink outside looking down towards the old town and the skyline of Lyon.

This is the kind of hotel where they will make a note when you leave the hotel on the morning and for dinner, and your room will be cleaned without any inconvenience to you. At night the housekeeping will leave little surprises on your bed.

Our rooms were on the top floor looking out over the whole of Lyon towards to old town and made the 240 steps up from the town worth it every single time.

The weather was not the best, but we still made use of the pool, the sauna, and especially the heated marble chairs was a hit. Even in very cold weather a robe was enough to keep you warm.

The pool was heated for swimming and not lounging, so just be aware of that if that is your thing, but if you kept active the pool war really nice to do a few laps in.

Being an older hotel, one of very few issues we had was with the hot water. It really took forever to get it warm, but we took that as being part of the charm of being right at the top of the hotel.

We only had breakfast once. The breakfast was served at the mezzanine, and was quite nice with quality items, but unfortunately the crepes and the poached eggs (almost hardboiled) came out very cold. We thought it was probably due to the restaurant being under renovation and they had to do with what they got, but we decided that we would eat at some of the great brunch places in Lyon the next couple of mornings and we did not complain, so it would be unfair to take away from the rating, as we did not give them a chance to rectify it.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. It is truly heartwarming to read your kind words about the hotel's beauty and our unwavering commitment to service excellence. We are delighted to hear that the lobby area and drink service met your expectations and added to the enjoyment of your stay. We deeply regret to hear about the inconvenience with the hot water in your room, and we appreciate your understanding of this matter as part of the unique charm of our historical establishment. Regarding the breakfast, we are sorry that the temperature of certain items did not meet our usual standards; please rest assured that we are continuously working to enhance our guests' dining experience, especially following our recent restaurant renovations. Your compliments on the lovely surprises from our housekeeping team, the breathtaking views from your room, and the heated amenities such as the marble chairs and the pool are greatly valued. We are thrilled that these features contributed to an enjoyable and memorable stay. We hope you will give us another opportunity to deliver an improved experience on your next stay. The bedroom is spacious with a very comfortable king size bed, the bathroom is large and functional with a shower and bathtub. The view from this room is not the prettiest but there is a splendid view of Lyon which can be enjoyed from the restaurant or reception.
The copious and varied breakfast, everything is there..
The restaurant "les terrasses de Lyon" lives up to its star both in terms of the service and the dishes offered. I particularly appreciated that we asked right from the installation what ingredients we didn't like or had an intolerance to, so the menu was adapted.

From the moment we arrived until our departure, the service was 5+ stars. They had arranged a driver to meet us at our riverboat. He arrived on time and he was smartly dressed and courteous. Arriving mid-morning we knew it was unlikely that our room would be ready and it wasn't. However, Anne at reception said they would do their best to make our suite available as soon as possible and provided us with juice on a small terrace off the lobby with outstanding views over the city. Our suite was readied within one hour and Anne gave us a quick tour of the hotel while showing us to our suite.
The suite was well appointed and had a stunning view of Lyon with the Alps in the distance. After relaxing we went to the pool terrace for lunch (the most delicious pommes frites of the whole vacation!). Again, service was top notch. We returned to the terrace for dinner as the primary fine dinning restaurant is closed on Sunday's. The concierge had previously informed us that the main restaurant would be closed on Sunday and had given us a list of suggested restaurants that were within walking distance. However, everything about Villa Florentine is so delightful we decided to the terrace was just fine.
In the morning we had a lovely breakfast before checking out and leaving with the luxury transport that the hotel has arranged for us.
Our stay was certainly five star and I hope we have the opportunity to vist again sometime in the future.

One of the best hotels that I've stayed at. Very well located in the old part of Lyon, it is a short walk (10-15 minutes) to most attractions in that area. Hotel rooms are located in two separate buildings connected by a common floor - it is a little convoluted to walk to the various amenities of the hotel, but not too hard to figure out. Rooms were well appointed and large, with very nice (and nice sized) bathrooms. Staff and management could not have been more helpful, and we really felt welcomed at this hotel. Breakfast was great with many options as well as eggs and other items cooked to order. The restaurant at the hotel is very well noted in the area, and the service at the restaurant, and most of the dishes, were excellent and worth the price. If you are booking at the hotel, be sure to make reservations for the restaurant in advance, as it typically is booked up. The wifi is a bit strange, with no security code, and I had some problems signing in and connecting to my workplace in the US.

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights at Villa Florentine. The location is superb, within easy walking distance of the old town and major attractions, and the views from the property and our room were spectacular! The entire team is outstanding! Everyone we met was personable, helpful and very welcoming, the manager even shared local history and tips for navigating the city. We felt appreciated and pampered. I enjoy speaking French, but everyone spoke impeccable English if that’s your preference. The hotel has loads of character and style with all of the modern conveniences, including fast and reliable WiFi. Our room was lovely, though we would have preferred a separate tub and shower (a minor inconvenience). They provided high quality toiletries. The breakfast buffet has lots of choices and great quality, the scrambled eggs are among the best we’ve ever had. You can dine outdoors on the terrace or in the serene breakfast room. The concierge parked our car when we arrived and we never had to use it again until we left. Lyon is a vibrant city and Villa Florentine is a perfect base for your explorations.

Spectacular view. Beautiful swimming pool (not heated however…). Jacuzzi pleasant although old. Beautiful terrace. Visually beautiful exterior. On the other hand, very poor service from neophytes who accumulate errors, speak badly...I had to get angry once to calm them down...and above all interior decorations completely outdated a priori the same since 1993 date of the last renovation!! …in short, too old-fashioned with dismal service for a price well over €1100 for 4 (without breakfast!!) equivalent to the price charged by the most luxurious hotels in Lyon, completely renovated or almost new…absurd prices for cocktail drinks for a very poor quality. Brasserie menu too limited. Toilets on the terrace worthy of a campsite…

The friendly, helpful and professional staff as well as the beautiful furnishings and art exceeded my expectations. Comfortable bed and great step-in shower. Having a balcony overlooking the cathedral and city was a surprise, and I recommend other travelers choose a category that offers a balcony. Compared to cities such as Paris and London, the rates are very reasonable, making a higher category with a balcony worthwhile. We liked the location in the old city and taking the stairs down to the town was not bad (we are older and not in great shape and were unnecessarily concerned about the steps; we even took the steps back up instead of a taxi).

Very lovely property with the best views in Lyon. The property has a limited amount of rooms, which lends to its quietness and coziness. The historic main lobby and bar/restaurant areas are stunningly beautiful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The bed & pillows were perfect! Housekeeping services were always attentive. Beautiful historic establishment, delicious food, fabulous massage, attentive service.
We loved spending our anniversary meeting at this property. Delicate attention: when we returned from dinner, we had the pleasant surprise of discovering a delicate attention for our 25th birthday (two swans intermingled made with bath towels ). The view is beautiful. The room is spacious with all the comforts of a 5 star (electric curtains, night lights at the foot of the bed with trigger cell). The steam room was the right temperature. In summer, being able to enjoy the outdoor pool must be magical. In short, if perfection exists, you will find it at Villa Florentine. The only downside, for tourists, is the accessibility to visit Lyon, as the hotel is located halfway down the hill from Croix-Rousse.

Dear guest, Don't worry, if you come by car or taxi, you will be dropped off directly in front of our establishment, no walking to climb and your luggage will be taken care of by our valet parking. If you come by public transport, we advise you to take the Metro D to the Vieux Lyon stop. Then the funicular (F2) to the basilica of Fourviere. So, you just have to go down the ascent saint barthelemy to the hotel, if you dread the stairs. Our concierge team is at your disposal on 04 72 56 56 56 to help you organize your stay. Looking forward to welcoming you ! The Villa Florentine front desk team
