What a marvelous hotel. The attention to detail and the personal level of service was beyond expectation.
The hotel is beautiful. The lobby area is a great place to get drinks, and if you visit later in the year, you would be able to take advantage of having a drink outside looking down towards the old town and the skyline of Lyon.
This is the kind of hotel where they will make a note when you leave the hotel on the morning and for dinner, and your room will be cleaned without any inconvenience to you. At night the housekeeping will leave little surprises on your bed.
Our rooms were on the top floor looking out over the whole of Lyon towards to old town and made the 240 steps up from the town worth it every single time.
The weather was not the best, but we still made use of the pool, the sauna, and especially the heated marble chairs was a hit. Even in very cold weather a robe was enough to keep you warm.
The pool was heated for swimming and not lounging, so just be aware of that if that is your thing, but if you kept active the pool war really nice to do a few laps in.
Being an older hotel, one of very few issues we had was with the hot water. It really took forever to get it warm, but we took that as being part of the charm of being right at the top of the hotel.
We only had breakfast once. The breakfast was served at the mezzanine, and was quite nice with quality items, but unfortunately the crepes and the poached eggs (almost hardboiled) came out very cold. We thought it was probably due to the restaurant being under renovation and they had to do with what they got, but we decided that we would eat at some of the great brunch places in Lyon the next couple of mornings and we did not complain, so it would be unfair to take away from the rating, as we did not give them a chance to rectify it.
The copious and varied breakfast, everything is there..
The restaurant "les terrasses de Lyon" lives up to its star both in terms of the service and the dishes offered. I particularly appreciated that we asked right from the installation what ingredients we didn't like or had an intolerance to, so the menu was adapted.
Recommended without moderation......

The suite was well appointed and had a stunning view of Lyon with the Alps in the distance. After relaxing we went to the pool terrace for lunch (the most delicious pommes frites of the whole vacation!). Again, service was top notch. We returned to the terrace for dinner as the primary fine dinning restaurant is closed on Sunday's. The concierge had previously informed us that the main restaurant would be closed on Sunday and had given us a list of suggested restaurants that were within walking distance. However, everything about Villa Florentine is so delightful we decided to the terrace was just fine.
In the morning we had a lovely breakfast before checking out and leaving with the luxury transport that the hotel has arranged for us.
Our stay was certainly five star and I hope we have the opportunity to vist again sometime in the future.

We loved spending our anniversary meeting at this property. Delicate attention: when we returned from dinner, we had the pleasant surprise of discovering a delicate attention for our 25th birthday (two swans intermingled made with bath towels ). The view is beautiful. The room is spacious with all the comforts of a 5 star (electric curtains, night lights at the foot of the bed with trigger cell). The steam room was the right temperature. In summer, being able to enjoy the outdoor pool must be magical. In short, if perfection exists, you will find it at Villa Florentine. The only downside, for tourists, is the accessibility to visit Lyon, as the hotel is located halfway down the hill from Croix-Rousse.
