Just returned from our 4th visit to the Soleil D'or and a fantastic week's skiing. The rooms are basic but clean and perfectly adequate - we were there to ski so didn't spend too much time in our room. Staff as ever are very friendly and helpful particularly Jo the chalet manager. Food was fantastic, wonderful cakes for afternoon tea... More

Booked as a first time skier and complete novice in winter sports with a 1 day attempt at snowboarding previously. Having read such positive reviews about the Simon Butler ski school and the cost of the rooms compared to others in the same location it was a obvious choice and far better value then booking accommodation and ski tuition lessons... We have just returned from a weeks break at the Soleil d Or, and I have to say the holiday surpassed all expectations I had. It is fair to say that the accomodation itself is tired but meets the requirement it is there for, but this is more than made up for in the customer care. The food was exceptional... More

We booked here since Cahlait d' Antoine was fully booked. This is the second hotel owned by Simon Buttler the Ski school owner. Everything people wrote about his hotels is accurate: great for families, staff is exceptionally attentive and ski instructors are very good ( note there are NO SNOW BOARD lessons only sky). The hotel is very old and... More

As other reviewers have said, the hotel is comfortable rather than luxurious. That said, the ambience is great, breakfast is filling, tea/hot chocolate/cake after a full day's skiing, before a truly delicious three course dinner with wine - hats off to Toby! But it's not just the hotel - ski tuition two hours a day for five days, morning classes... More

Fall out of the Soleil D or and you are on the footsteps of one of the most charming and beautiful of all french ski resorts, Megeve. The Soleil D or is fairly sombre in appearance but one of the oldest buildings in Megeve with a certain colditz charm. It has all you need for a excellent ski holiday with... More

We just spent 4 days with Simon Butler at Soleil d'or and loved the whole experience. Don't expect a luxury hotel. But do expect 3-course set-menu fine-dining to Michelin star standards and tuition that lets you enjoy skiing while learning. That may be learning from scratch or improving from any level up to Olympic contendor standard. We met both in... More

This is not just a review about the hotel / chalet, it is more a review about Simon Butler Skiing as the chalet and Simon Butler are committed to teaching skiing in the winter. I am not even sure that the chalet opens outside of the ski season. Ski Instruction is great! The vituals are delicious. the people are friendly... More

The whole thing is a fantastic jewel of an experience. In winter, the hotel is committed to skiing, teaching skiing and improving skiers who stay (whatever their ability or experience). The best ski Instruction in the world is included (a minimum of two hours daily in Megève for 5 days). You will be taught, videod and critiqued. Instructors are British... More
