Enjoy your stay in Valence!
Stayed here recently on a one night stay, would not recommend at all. Staff when we arrived were unhelpful, the room was small, but that was ok as it was clean. The bathroom was tidy but it did the job. There was an awlful smell of smoke in both the room and the corridor. When we returned back after being out for the evening there was a terrible row going on at reception between a guest and the receptionist in the middle of the hotel lobby and it made us feel very uncomfortable. There are a lot nicer hotels in Valence for a similar price, I would not recommend this one.
Once again visiting the Ardeche mountains and had another stop over in Valence. Due to the train timetable from St.Pancras/London via Paris arrival will always be after buses to the Ardeche have closed for the night. Hence an over-nighter at the Hotel de Lyon. At £50 including breakfast and less than 2 minutes from the main line and bus terminus it suits just fine. The rooms are small but sufficient for a one night stop. Small en-suite shower and toilet but adequate. When people whinge about no kettle or mineral water, what is the problem? The place is surrounded by shops and cafes....get out and use some of the money saved in finding a clean , friendly and reasonably priced hotel.
Very well positioned close to train station and very central; close to lots of bars and restaurants. The rooms can be small but are fully functional. BUT... no air conditioning so may be uncomfortable in the summer months.
No air conditioning, no kettle to boil hot water, not even one bottle of mineral water provided, musky smell in room, the bathroom is so small I can't even bend to reach my feet, the toilet so small I actually knock and fall over the door when trying to wipe my feet. Stay the the freak out of this place. Only reason I booked this hotel was because my favorite 3 star hotel was full. Thank goodness, I managed to book my favorite hotel for the last half of my stay in Valence.
Ideal for train travellers the hotel is 50 metres from Valence Ville railway station. One overnight stay was most satisfactory .The room was nothing smart but quite functional, clean and well provided. A good night's sleep was had, no adjacent room noises and breakfast is served from around 6 am again ideal for early onward train travellers. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Thoroughly recommend for a short city break.
