First thing to say is pack mosquito repellent as the air is alive with them and most of our group got badly bitten. Stayed here for a two day business meeting. I was confused on taxi drop off as I went into the wrong entrance and thought I was in a hospital. In fact the treatment and rehab unit is adjacent but entirely separate to the hotel. The bedroom was comfortable with a good shower but no aircon (it was over 30C in mid June with very high humidity). There was a fan though and I wasn’t as badly affected as most of my colleagues (who couldn’t sleep at all). At least the bedroom windows open and the mosquito screening is good. I was more unhappy that the room had no kettle or tea making facilities, only a coffee machine. Otherwise the meeting rooms were good, with aircon and natural light, the staff were all lovely and the food was very good. There is apparently a pool and a swimming lake but I didn’t have time to use either. Not an ideal hotel for business or pleasure because of the issues above, at least not in summer, but probably very convenient and helpful if you are recovering from an injury (as many hotel guests seemed to be).

The hotel is located in a lovely spot in the woods, with walking/trails and birds chirping, outside Freiburg. There is a large terrace to sit on for a drink or a meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful to provide a relaxing experience. I really enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffett. If you are looking to explore the area, it is situated on the way to Alsace so you can go into Freiburg and France quite easily. If you want a hotel right in Freiburg, this isn't it. And the highway is a bit close by so there is some sound, but usually the birds chirping was louder.

Big complex in a thermal center and rehab. In fact there is another hotel side by only for patients. It's in an immense park and many come from outside for the warm indoor and outdoor pool. Quite expensive for the area. About 20' car drive from Freiburg.

I booked specifically this hotel on a journey down to France to give the kids a good relaxing moment in the largely marketed pool on the webistes.
Hotel is pricy even compared to Scandinavian standards... but in the perspective of playing kids it seemed an acceptable compromise. (266 Euros per night incl breakfast for 3)

BUT: the pool/spa areas are not connected to the hotel and are not included in the stay; each visit costs 14 Euros/adult. So don't be fooled!
Rooms are fresh and modern but even in a double bed pillows are not of the same standard: one got a firm large pillow, another one got a lousy shapeless cushion...

Conclusion: "Eine Verarschung für dieses Geld"...

We booked a junior suite and the day before we arrived the hotel called to ask if we could help them out and change to double interconnected rooms instead. I specifically asked if there was a big difference ik the rooms and they said no. With that information I agreed as we were staying for only 1 night. Big was my surprise at arrival when de noticed that the normal rooms didn’t have airconditioning and that with a heat wave going on in Europe. The room was like a sauna and the only thing we got was a little fan full of dust. When I complained at the reception they told me they ‘forgot’ to mention this. If I would have known this I would have never agreed to a room change. They offered a 20% discount which is a real disgrace as my family didn’t sleep all night!!!
We had breakfast at 7 am in the morning but the breakfast buffet wasn’t ready at all. They still needed to start with preparing the hot buffet. At 7.10 they still needed to prepare the sausages so as we didn’t had much time we couldn’t enjoy breakfast fully. I still hope management will reach out personally to discuss the ‘20% compensation’, otherwise it will be my laste visit to a Dorint property ever.

My husband and I and another couple spent two nights here and we greatly enjoyed our stay. The setting was lovely, the building being in the midst of forest. We walked out of our ground floor patio doors to a grassy expanse where we could sit in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine. (It would have been nice to have had an actual patio) Our rooms and the building itself were very clean and well maintained. We loved the beds! Good pillows and crisp white sheets enclosed the duvet-no grubby bedspreads! The service at the front desk was excellent. Room service and the service from those working in the restaurant was very good. We had dinner in the restaurant and we all enjoyed our meals. There was a good menu; food was tasty and well presented. The 14 Euro buffet breakfast was the best that we had during our European vacation. There were juices, fresh vegetables and fruit (melons, berries, pineapple) sausages and ham, eggs, potatoes, cheeses, many cereals and varieties of bread and sweets as well as other offerings. The 83 Euro price was unbelievabe. We would definitely return and will highly recommend this hotel to friends.

Positives: the hotel itself is terrific. Very modern and sophisticated. The food is amazing! Very healthy and tasty. Loved it. The seasonal salad and fish main course was delicious. Breakfast also fantastic! Lots of choices. Top ingredients. Restaurant staff also great.
Negatives: no air conditioning in rooms. Was hot in that area of Germany last month. Reception staff clueless and fairly unhelpful. I was interested in using the spa, the receptionist just gave me half hearted directions to it and no advice. Apparently there's a tunnel direct to it and you can get vouchers at reception. I walked aimlessly for 350 metres to find the spa, which contrary to the site I booked through, is a separate business to the hotel. The spa is a private club. Hotel guests have to pay around euro 30 for use of pool and sauna and towel hire - extortionate fee for a guest in my opinion. I felt misled by the booking site (beautiful pictures of indoor and outdoor pools!) and badly advised by the hotel staff. When I checked out, the hotel reception staff weren't interested in my mixed review and proceeded to patronise me that all the booking sites state the spa is separate!! Grrrrr! No simple apology. Unfortunately, I wouldn't stay again.

The hotel was very good. It is in a little forrest and has a great feel to it. However, one should know that the other half of the building is a rehab center for surgeries (hip replacements I would guess - after seeing the 6th person on crouches). Even the shower for our room was wheelchair compliant. I think the entire place used to be for rehab and they converted it to a hotel.

Plus:
- Setting and location, close to Freiburg but not in the city, we took a great walk through the fields and you can even rent some very nice bikes to explore the area.
- Food, the food there is simply outstanding - well above the 3 star rating for the hotel. The restaurant manager or Maitre Dei has probably worked in 5 star restaurants and it shows - he was first-class.

Minus:
- everything that had to do with the Therme. We tried to get a facial
at the hotel and I contacted them 5 days before - but I guess they don´t work on Sundays - at all. The Therme itself offered no treatments, it was not very clean and was filled with kids. I like kids - but if you go to a spa or Therme, you do not expect 6 month old babies to be bathing in the same pool without swim diapers. They had 5 pools and that was the case in all of them.

Freiburg itself is a GREAT city to visit.

It looks like any other conference hotel. The man behind the desk at check in was unipersonal, the room was not ready but he promised us it would be at 3 pm (check in time). Unfortunately it wasn't ready and he kind of neglected us waiting there. The lady that helped us was friendly though. The room itself was quite dark, and extremely hot. No airconditioning in summertime while it can get very hot in Germany. Room itself was small but clean. In contrary of the name, Dorint and den Thermen, it has nothing to do with the Thermen. You have to pay an extra 20 euro's per person to use the thermen that is next to the hotel but has nothing to do with it. Staff on the terrace was unfriendly, until you gave her a tip, then she could talk and smile. After staying there for three hours we felt so bad about the hotel and the heat in the room, we decided to pack our stuff and check out again, after 3 hours staying there. If it was a cheap hotel, I could imagine, but this had little to do with the standard of Dorint I used to know. Unfortunately I won't go back there.

Dear guest, Thank you for the evaluation. We are sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay. We guarantee our rooms at 3pm. We are sorry if our colleague does not come to you again after 3pm. We try to provide our guests their room as soon as possible on arrival. If it was not the case with you, we would like to apologize. You are right in the summer months it can be quite warm in our attic rooms. Since we represent ourselves as a health resort and the health of our guests is important to us, our rooms (except the suites) have no air conditioning.Due to a change at our cooperation partner, the KEIDEL Mineral-Thermalbad, we are currently unable to sell any spa and sauna entries through our reception. The sale is currently exclusively at KEIDEL Bad. Our guests can still use the tunnel from the hotel to the thermal bath after acquisition of the entries. We would be happy to get a second chance from you. Kind regards, Your Gesundheitsresort Team
