The location is definitely out of town. There is a bus route from the end of tram route 3, but it only runs until 7pm, and not at all on Saturdays or Sundays. The walk from the tram terminus is a good mile long. In daylight you can walk part of the way through a pleasant, old, wood, but I wouldn't want to go that way after dark.
I did find the automated check-in a bit of a challenge but I got in eventually.
had some "budget" hotels in their portfolio. Know I know that they have an how!
ETAP Hotels doesn't have the best location in the inner city, but more around or close to the city borders / highway's.
But location, is not the only "thing" of course inside the hotel is even or more important,
and I can tell you, right know....GREAT!! of course its basic, you have a (twin)bed, shower/wash table and TV corner on a small area with view to in lands (hills / grassland) or business areal. Further more the room will / get cleaned up everyday with fresh and new towels. Diningroom as even a function as reception, bar, and other amities like internet or candy / drink machines.
Hotels is in good condition nice designed, clean and tidy. Hotel access is okay, but only by car with tram/bus you need to walk 15 minutes to closest station.
Conclusion you want to have a payable , simple , but OK hotel with confidence of Accor Hotels, then is ETAP you best choice.
The only issue I had was that GPS Garmin could not find that address in Freiburg and Gewerbegebiet Haid-West did not mean anything to it. So, you have to follow the signs to that part! And than signs for Ibis.

I want to issue a complaint about the employee at the Freiburg Sud IBIS Hotel at Boetzinger Str. 76, Gewerbegebiet Haid-West 79111 FREIBURG - GERMANY.
We have made a very early reservation on 26 February 2018 for a stay on 28 July 2018 at this Hotel like we do every year at a IBIS hotel. The code given was: GDWDGQXJ.
We noticed by our navigation that our trip would take longer and that we would arrive later than 18:00 hours. At that moment I contacted at noon (12:00 hours) the hotel and explained the situation. We where told it was OK and that if would arrive after 20:00 hours we should call again. Due to heavy traffic in Italy and Switzerland we indeed saw that the arrival time would be again later then 20:00 hour so I called the hotel again to explain. At the end of the conversation I asked if we had to call again but this was not needed, no further action.
As we arrived after a very long and exhausting trip at 23:30 hours the booking system did not recognize our code so I contacted the booking center by the doorbell on the hotel. After have pressed another 2 times at the bell 30 minutes later a very angry person on bare feet came running to us an told us we where too late and had no room! He did not introduce himself, was not identified as a IBIS employee and was very very rude! We had to go away and the door was closed.
Even if there was any misunderstanding (booked, confirmed, called 2 times?) this Accor co-worker could at least be more polite and of assistance to look for a solution. There was no such thing only rudeness and we had to leave with no place to stay after a very long drive on a very warm day and where exhausted. The next day we had to again travel 700 kilometers home.
This is not the service, rather call it insult, I expect in 2018 and I hope you share this opinion with me.
