I visited Berchesgaten in November, 2018. I arrived late at night and the staff was nice enough to accommodate me, even with 4 beers in my room. I awoke the next morning and the fog cleared, wow! I sat on the balcony drinking coffee and smoking a fat one. The mountain view of the Bavarian Alps was stunning. It is located a view hundred meters above the train station, and a short taxi ride, or bus ride. There is a bus stop near the hotel making getting to and from everything easy. The hotel was clean but a bit age. But, aged is kind of what I wanted in Bavaria, something more rustic. I would diffidently would visit again.
If you have problems climbing steps this is probably not the hotel for you. To get into the hotel you must go up about 15 steps. We were lucky to have Adriana at the front desk. Every time we saw her, she was friendly, helpful and always had a smile. For us, it was a bonus that she was able to speak English. For some reason, they had us booked into a room that seemed to be the farthest from the reception desk. We had to go up multiple sets of stairs, down many hallways through a couple of rooms and finally up an elevator and down the final hallway. It seemed like we should have packed a snack before we started the trek to our room. The room was small but also had a small balcony. The door to get onto the balcony was old and you had to be careful how you opened it. The view from the balcony was great. The breakfast was good, but you had to use a coffee machine and only get a small cup of coffee. The hotel is a small walk away from the city centre and where the restaurants are located. The hotel has 4 parking spots. The first two were in a parking lot that was never empty. The problem with these two spots is that we have to drive on a narrow sidewalk to get to the two spots. The other two spots which we used for half of the time were across from the hotel which is located at the local parking lot across from the hotel.…
Firstly, this hotel is dated and harks back to when it would have been in it's hey day. All that aside, the hotel is located in a great part of town and accessible to the towns facilities. Check in was good and the staff nice and helpful. Other than breakfast, which was more than adequate for our needs there are no other meals served in the dining room. We woke to a stunning view over the mountains before heading off to the Eagles Nest and Konigsee. Points to note, there is no dedicated parking, but plenty of on street and car park spaces alongside the hotel. The other note is that you will need to do some steps to get to your room. So if you are used to elevators and bellboys, not the place for you.
I am not sure how hotel star ratings work, but all 3 star hotels we have visited in Europe, looks way better than this hotel. Everything is extremely dated with even the veneer of the room furniture coming off, the fridge did not work, the heating did not work and the whole hotel did not have warm water in the morning. There is not a kettle in the room but were advised coffee and tea is available in the lounge downstairs. Only teabags was available and we were advised coffee will only be available in the morning in the dining room. This hotel is in serious need of tender love and care. I did not enjoy my stay here at all.
Wow, what a lovely warm welcome when checking in, the hotel is lovely and the view from our room was fantastic ( suite) lovely choice for breakfast, there is a path opposite the hotel to walk down to the train/bus station, if you have mobility issues might be a problem , the tourism office is also based down by the station, plentiful of restaurants close to hotel, Would I stay here again? Most definitely 😀
