Stayed over during Passion play. Running like a well oiled machine. Excellent food, helpful and friendly staff. Made our experience so much the better. Will definitely stay there again.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Parkhotel as part of a package for the Passion Play.We were on the whole pleased with our hotel allocation. The Parkhotel sits by a river with fabulous views of the mountains - which we were lucky enough to have from our very spacious balcony. The room we had was comfortable with...

The hotel was well organised to cater to groups attending the Passion Play. Meals: Service was quick and efficient, (self-service breakfast), menus were pre-selected but the choice was still interesting and varied, the food was excellent. Rooms were small (I was alone and had a room to myself but they obviously expected it to be adequate for two) and the...

Visiting Oberammergau with a group for the Passion Play last weekend 22 - 24 May; this hotel was super. Beautiful location on the river, clean, wonderful balcony view of the town and within easy walking distance of the theatre. Staff were friendly and super efficient, getting us through dinner in plenty of time for the performance in the evening. Breakfast...

Oberammergau is a small town high up in the mountains of Bavaria. Named after the Ammer river, which flows through the village, Oberammergau has a storybook quality to it with its half-timbered medieval dwellings and frescoed exteriors. The Parkhotel Sonnenhof is a chalet style hotel on the opposite side of the river with a magnificent view of the town and...

First thing: In one of the public rooms, there was a massive wall display given over to blueprints for a massive expansion of the hotel buildings, so it's likely that the hotel will change a lot in the next twelve months or so; it's also possible that the slightly drab feel of the hotel may have been because they were...

I've had the opportunity to stay at the Parkhotel Sonnenhof three times over the past 6 months and I would agree that it's one of the better hotels in Oberammergau. However, compared to other hotels in large cities or the US, it would rank right in the middle as a 3-star. Location is on the edge of town, but Oberammergau...

We were happy with this hotel in which we just spent Christmas. The town of Oberammergau lived up to our expectations of a white Christmas and this hotel certainly contributed to it. Our accommodation was very good, a lovely big room with King size bed and window seats around the semi-circular windows in the corner with great views and an...

Me, my wife, our son (18) and daughter (12) stayed for 2 weeks in Oberammergau (Bavarian Alps). We have been several times at this famous village on other places, but first time in the Parkhotel Sonnenhof. There is a very friendly stuff, which always takes trouble of everything you want, but never obtrusive. There is attractive Bavarian furniture in the...

It's not always easy traveling with children, and finding a good kid-friendly place to stay can be tough. The Sonnenhof was an excellent choice for us recently with two small (< 4 yrs) kids. They have a great indoor playroom with all kinds of toys and games, and (in warmer weather) a nice outdoor play area as well. There's also...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Feeling well has a reason". Under this motto, we like to welcome you in our Parkhotel Sonnenhof The Parkhotel Sonnenhof is a family owned 3 - star - Superior - hotel in the higher middle class, build 1977 in an alps - country style. It has 35 doubles and superior doubles, 5 single rooms and 15 junior suites and apartments. The Parkhotel is located in the beautiful scenery of the Ammertal, in the outskirts of our village and right in front of the "Kofel", the main mountain of Oberammergau which is inside the Ammergau Alps. It is not least the extraordinary people who have made Oberammergau to what it is: a colorful array of art, culture and tradition, a successful blend of earthy local ties and cosmopolitan hospitality. Masterful "Luftlmalerei" (house paintings) emblazoned on the fronts of houses, all thriving arts and crafts, cozy restaurants and cafes tempt you to stop. The village's cultural and spiritual legacy was shaped by the Passion of Christ. Since 1634, Oberammergauers have kept their vow to stage a Passion Play every ten years, the next occasion being in 2020. On the last occasion, some 2,500 of the approximately 5,300 inhabitants of Oberammergau were involved on or behind stage, including 500 children. During the interim years, high-calibre international ensembles present plays and concerts. Visit us and experience the magic of Oberammergau's creative flair Hiking, Nordic Walking, Cycling or simply swimming and sun bathing - the possibilities are almost unlimited in the Ammergau Alps. In wintertime the Ammergau Alps offer a lot of activities - cross-country skiing, skiing, tobogganning, snowshoeing - the snow-sure situation of the Ammer Valley allow almost everything. The Bavarian fairy tale King Ludwig II is closely connected with the Ammergau Alps. Here stands his Linderhof Palace, the only one which he also lived for several years. Also castle Neuschwanstein which is just 45km away. At the end of a day with many activities and cultural experiences relax in our modern wellness area or treat yourself with a luxurious beauty cure or a massage of your choice. ... more   less

“Describe what you like and the staff will give you the best advice. All the hotel is located in a very quiet corner of the town. Personnaly, I like the ones facing the town. No noise is heard, other that the sound of the church bells that echoes through the valley and the river flowing nearby. No A/C but very efficient heating system. TV, separate dressing-closet, safe, and minibar with assorted beverages was available in my room (junior-suite).”
