Come, see and enjoy the new herrnschlösschen, a charming trilogy of hotel, restaurant and garden. During your stay in one of Rothenburgs´ oldest houses, you will definitely sense the outstanding level of hospitality. The unique combination of history and modern spirit is most fascinating. The hotel herrnschlösschen is Rothenburg smallest yet most exclusive hotel – 4 deluxe double rooms, 2 junior suites and 2 senior suites. All rooms are equipped with King Size or Double beds, we do not have Twin or Queen beds and the Suites are with A/C.

Hands down the most elegant and beautiful place we stayed while in Europe this summer. The building in which the hotel is located is in the heart of historic old Rothenberg ob der Tauber. Walk a few steps in one direction, you get breathtaking views of the city across the valley. Walk a few steps in the other direction, and you are at the Marktplatz, the heart of old Rothenberg. While close to the action, the hotel is very quiet, a real oasis.

The owners were delightful, and took time to speak to us each time we passed through the common area. They thoughtfully provided an English-language city map to us, as well as a great Romantic Road map, when they knew that was our interest. Breakfast was cooked to order, and delicious. The house is in excellent condition. The team who restored it several years ago knew what they were doing—protecting the structure, keeping interesting architectural details visible, but adding all the modern conveniences.

The suite we were in (the Bird Suite) lacked nothing. Bath/shower combo where both the water and stopper worked! Toiletries. Washcloths. A mini-bar. The living room was about 5 steps below the bedroom, and the bathroom was off of the living room. The entire suite is on the second floor; there is no elevator, and there are quite a few steps (due to the high ceilings), so that may be a consideration for anyone with mobility issues.

Herrnschlosschen is air conditioned; however, as Bart told us when he showed us the room, the windows opened, and the A/C wasn’t really necessary. The weather was quite mild while we were there in early August, 2021, so I’m not sure how it is when the weather is warmer. However, we had lows in the mid-50’s and highs around 70, and it was perfect. The location of the room on a corner—with open windows on two sides of the bedroom, and a large window in the living room—made it more than comfortable.

We needed to park a car, and it was no problem. In the day time, it needed to be moved (not sure where) but we were able to access on short notice when we needed it, right at the front door.

Bart and Anita could not have been nicer, more attentive hosts. they obtained reservations for us at two nearby restaurants, as well as connecting us to an excellent tour guide. From providing umbrellas to giving us directions, they were always available and very generous with their time.

Our only regret is that we weren't there longer! Two nights was not enough.

I can’t recommend this hotel more. The service was impeccable starting with the owner’s patience with all of my questions with the regions constantly changing COVID requirements. Once here we were greeted with a welcome drink and checkin consisted of a detailed overview of the city, up to date times and access, and things we shouldn’t miss. He helped us make reservations for the restaurant in the hotel that night (see my other review but this shouldn’t be missed) and also at another restaurant in town.

We stayed in the tulip suite which was fantastic and included a large soaking tub and private balcony overlooking the garden. It was a little rainy for our trip so we couldn’t take as much advantage of it as we would have liked but I can only imagine how amazing it would be in spring and summer.

We can’t wait to come back and stay again sometime.

We stayed here as our 4th night in Bavaria, the hotel is a 5 minute walk from old town within the the walled portion of city. They welcomed us with a glass of wine in their colorful garden. We chose a junior suite which was a very large suite that is well appointed and had also had air conditioning. I would recommend a room with air conditioning given the heat of the summer. The only suggestion would be to offer other pillow types such as foam.

Enjoy the evening after dinner in the garden with a bottle of wine or beer, it is a very relaxing environment. The breakfast offering was a good variety and made to order as well as tasty.

The family and staff were very helpful in advance of our visit with restaurants recommendations and reservations. We would recommend staying here you will not be disappointed. We should have stayed two days and for the second day did a day trip to Nuremberg instead of staying in the city.

As others have said, hotel is very nice. Great location near the market square and the night watchman tour, delicious prix fixe dinner inside the hotel, close enough to everything you'd want to do, very nice (large!) room. We'd just come from Wurzburg where our room was extremely small, so the large room in Rothenburg was especially welcome. We did have some trouble getting to the hotel because of how Google maps routed us, so at that point we abandoned the car and started walking, thinking we'd come back once we got some advice, but the hotel clerk brought us some champagne and retrieved the car for us himself, with our luggage. So nice! So yeah, this is a terrific place to stay.

Room Tip: Don't be surprised if your GPS sends you down an impassible alley near the back of the hotel. Ugh.

My wife and I spent 9 days wandering around the Romantic Road in Bavaria and we stayed at Hotel Herrnschlosschen two of those nights. Rothenburg o.d. Tauber was the nicest of the towns we visited with ample exciting things to do and visit (for not more than 2 days though) and the Herrnschlosschen was the nicest hotel of the 4 hotels we stayed at during our trip, including 5 star hotels we stayed at in two larger towns.

A small hotel of only 8 rooms where from the moment you arrive to the sad minute you leave, it oozes charm and friendliness seldom experienced in a hotel. Bart the owner manager and his staff make it so that you feel you stayed not in a hotel, but the summer house of a close friend.

Hotel facilities are restricted, no lift, no pool, no parking etc. But then you are in a medieval building in a romantic town. Your luggage is delivered to your room and loaded into your car on departure, your car is parked in a safe off road car park, and the pool? well, do you really want to spend your day or two in Romantic Rothenburg splashing about in a pool? usual amenities. The breakfast was excellent and excellently presented. As for quibbles? Well I am still scratching my head trying to think of one.

The room was well appointed and supplied with all the ? usual amenities. The breakfast was excellent and excellently presented. As for quibbles? Well I am still scratching my head trying to think of one.

See you again Bart, hope soon…

I wish their was a 10! This hotel, besides being beautiful in one of the most picturesque towns in Germany, has the best customer staff we have ever experienced. Every staff member we encountered were so kind and friendly, but one gentleman went above and beyond to help us with a situation we had with our car. Every staff member we encountered were very friendly and caring.

Now onto the beautiful property and gardens. This was a little piece of old world heaven,
with every detail thought of in the rooms, bathrooms, and waiting areas curated to perfection. The breakfast was amazing as well. The location of this hotel is right at the base of the famous clock tower gate in all the pictures. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer!

This hotel is absolutely charming, beautiful, quaint, full of history and has the best owners! Bart and his wife were simply wonderful. From the moment we pulled up out front until the moment we closed the car doors to drive away, their main concern was for us to enjoy our holiday. Bart told us "worry about nothing. Start your holiday now by giving me your keys. I will get you checked in then go park your car." He walked us up to our room and showed us around. He gave us a map of the city and explained the major highlights. He also recommended a few places for dinner and offered to make a reservation for us since their restaurant was not open that night.

The breakfast is included and is a fantastic a' la carte menu. A nice selection of breads, meats, cheeses, yogurts and they also offer eggs made to order. There is a selection of fresh juice, coffee or tea. (Oh - and their homemade marmalade is AMAZING!) You just tell them what you would like and they bring it to you - fresh from the kitchen. Incredibly personal experience.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough! If we go back for another overnight trip to Rothenburg we will most definitely stay here again.

A wonderful stay at Hotel Herrnschlosschen. Rothenburg was such a fun city to explore with all of its history and the hotel was in a great location. I cannot say enough about the owners. They provide a high level of service and will answer questions about anything you need. Since we arrived early, we sat down with them and received a lot of information about what to do and see. We took advantage of their hospitality to make recommendations and reservations for us. Breakfast was perfect and they even drove us to the train station when we left rather than having to drag luggage across the city. Would definitely stay here again if returning to Rothenburg.

Hotel Herrnschlosschen in the quaint town of Rotherburg, Germany is a historical residence turned into a hotel with modern amenities. We booked a 3 night in the Tulip suite which overlooked the beautiful garden where breakfast is served weather permitting. There is no lift; however, the staff is eager to assist with luggage. The valet service was prompt whenever we needed our car. Hotel management bent over backwards to assure that our stay was up to expectations. If you are planning a trip to Rothenburg, I strongly recommend the Hotel Herrnschlosschen......it's the best.

Pampered in a 1000 year old building with convenient access to everything in Rothenburg. Our hosts were gracious and helpful at every opportunity. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The in room refrigerator was stocked with soft drinks, water, beer and wine. We highly recommend this hotel.
