The loft apartments are a good place for people who love old industrial buildings. The inner court yard, which is well away from the main street, offers a peaceful stay; the lofts are small and basic, but modern and clean; linen and basic kitchen ware are provided. The café offers a very varied buffet breakfast for only 5 EUR, and...

Failed to maintain even a quarter of what we were told in advance. The place is dirty, clean is terrible in the cafe. We got an apartment with used kitchen, no one washed there. We opened the holiday with 2 hours of cleaning and it didn't continue better.

We had a very friendly welcome to IMA. We were given a free room upgrade to a room with a double bed, a comfy sofa style bed, a kitchen and dining table. The apartment was very big and had great views out towards central Berlin. IMA is located less than 5 mins walk to the underground station and is right...

My boyfriend and I were recommended these apartments by someone who has previously lived in Berlin and we were not disappointed - a great base for U-bahn access for exploring the rest of the city and exactly what we needed for a long weekend. The apartments were spacious with an arty feel and we did not feel intimidated by the...

We had a great stay in these apartments, it was brilliant to have your own independent space in the middle of Berlin. Our apartment had great views across the city towards the TV Tower. The location was excellent, between Moritzplatz and Kottbusser Tor U-Bhan stations, so easy access yo anywhere in Berlin. Also close to the bars and restaurants of...

Booked a 2 room loft and went there in may 2011. Since the building is located in a real ghetto, it was shock after shock when walking from the metro to Ima Loft. Passing by drunks, junks and more. When arrived at the right address, we could nog believe this was the place. It some kind of filty industrial building...

For those who like to stay in hostels, but look for an alternative in Berlin. It's in a great position if you want to see the otheriside of Berlin: Kreuzberg! Other locations in Berlin are also accessible by the subway. Two stations are close to the "hotel". Clean, big, modern, alternative and great value for money!

We went there for my birthday and we actually booked a miniloft, but as they were out of them they gave us a big one instead. Great concept, very clean, friendly staff, great location, good value for money. It was actually one of the most roomy places I ever stayed in. It's probably not for everyone though. The streets in...

Ignore comments on here about safety and the snobish attitude to the IKEA furniture. Some Tripadvisors either don't do their research before they go, go with false expectations of what somewhere is going to be like or think everywhere should resemble a 5* hotel chain. This place is great. Lovely spacious loft spaces set in an old warehouse with everything...

I stayed here for the 2010 Berlin Marathon and I was forced to move hotels on my last night for my own safety (see later). The hotel is located in quite a poor part of Berlin, on the border of Kreuzberg and Mitte which is notorious for petty crime (at bottom of the street is the notorious Kottbusser Tor U-Bahn...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
