I stayed in this hostel for my first solo trip. Arrived at 11pm and the receptionist was helpful and funny. Also gave me a beer upon arrival which is always a nice touch. The beds were clean and comfortable, and would have been perfect if not for one guy in the room excessively snoring...but I can't hold that against the...

Exquisite building, interior design's developing such an incredibile sense of style and rafinament hard to be found nowdays. Left me deeply impressed (&that's not happening often). A big + is their pet friendly policy. Totally love and support it !

This is a beautiful pre war building with soilid wood staircase. There were only two beds in the room so it felt like a boutique hostel. There a nice comfy library and bar area and very helpful and friendly staff. Easy walking distance to public transport and trains and shops. Very clean and comfortable and does not feel like a...

Normally I'd rather stay in (boutique) or family owned hotels while travelling. But as Berlin was almost sold out because of ITB, I took a recommendation of a blogger friend and booked myself into the Grand Hostel. It's located in Kreuzberg just 2 min from a metro station that takes you to Alexanderplatz in a few minutes. I booked a...

We stayed here in late October for two nights. We booked 2 beds in 6-bed room. Lovely hostel with great service. Friendly and helpful staff (thanks, guys!). Our room was basic, but very clean. Bathroom was ok. Really nice common areas. Good location as well. Highly recommended!

Really nice common areas and everyday there is something going on, its the best hostel to make new connections. Best value for money and no bunk beds, luxury! 10/10 do recommend Wifi works...

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed. Very nice staff, comfortable bed, hot shower, good breakfast. The only thing that was missing, it was a hanger for the towels in the bedroom. 20 min walking to the centre.

The staff was excellent, location was fabulous, and their beer is very reasonably priced. The room we stayed in, however, had almost no water pressure in the bathroom/shower, no hot water, and there was mould growing all over the ceiling and upper walls. The bathroom is certainly in need of major improvements. The other concerning point was that they charged...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
