We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hostel Berlin. Welcomed with a drink and an explanation of things to see and do, very freindly and helpful staff, very clean. It's within a beautiful building, right next to the tube/train station, and one direct line from Schonefeld airport . The only issue for us was that our private room was... More

Grand hostel Berlin was an excellent hostel, really enjoyed our stay. Very easy to find as just beside U-bahn station Mockernbrucke, which made getting around very easy. So even though it's not right bang in the middle of Berlin, the main sites were very easy to get to, while also being able to get out of the way of the... More

I went with two friends and we had a perfect stay. The staff were helpful and friendly, the breakfast tasty, and the atmosphere really great. We were in the only triple room in the hostel with our own private balcony and view of the city and river. The hostel is an easy walk to two subway stations. Absolutely recommended and... More

Very welcoming, easy to get to - just follow directions on website. Private room was very generous and modern. Easily accessible to transport, but can walk everywhere. Very clean, beautiful building. A lil noise from hallways. Highly recommend!

Pros: Very friendly and helpful reception staff, excellent breakfast, big wardrobes with lock (fits a large suitcase), very close to a couple of subway stations. Cons: No curtains around the beds, no individual outlets in the room, no elevator, see-through glass in shower boxes.

This hostel is amazing! It has gorgeous rooms, everything it's very clean, great location and so helpful and friendly stuff. You can choose to have breakfast until 11 a.m. with 6.20 euros but you have a great choice there and the girls are so nice. If you visit Berlin, definitely that's the place to stay in !!!!!!

Good deal, celan bathroons, friendly staff. The Grand hostel is close to the subway (half block) and for those who like a real German breakfest, there is a restaurant just next to the building. We paid 6 euros, wich was a fair price. All information you need can be obtained at front desk, they are always prompt to help. The... More

I was impressed not only by the stunning beauty of the common areas but of the entire facility. The rooms were gorgeous with comfortable single beds (instead of bunk-beds) in the shared room I stayed in. There were warm, crisp and clean white sheets and comforters on all the beds, and full-length lockers for everyone. The bathrooms were super clean... More

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hostel Berlin in April, 2014. The common reception room are very welcoming and comfortable. A staff member carried our heavier luggage to our room and REFUSED a tip. (You... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
