In 1963, Schöneberg was the centre of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the centre of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.

Near transport links, zoo, shops. Rooms are modern, clean, and comfy beds. Breakfast had a great selection. Staff are friendly and bar staff are super efficient. Very near one of the Xmas markets near the church.

Located an easy walk from Zoo station, KaDeWe, the Ku'dam shopping district this deceptively large branch of the IHG chain is recommended. Attentive reception staff without being overbearing. I had only booked the entry level room but was upgraded on arrival to a better room at t

First impressions were good, foyer was clean, brightly lit and we were greeted with a smile. Unfortunately it was all down hill from there.

Once we gave our names for our booking we were told “the only rooms available have two single beds”. After informing them numerous times w

Response from Gregor_Linhart, Manager at Hotel Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre
Responded 4 days ago
Dear Shane C, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to evaluate your stay on multiple platforms. I am sorry to read, that the design and the size of our rooms did not meet your expecations. Eventhough our entire hotel has been completely renovated over the past few years, it is of course always a question of personal taste. However, let me please clearify the issue with the hold on your credit card: Upon Check In we do ask for a deposit payment which covers the amount for the stay plus 80 € per day for any extras you might have. This procedure is an international standard in any hotel. Deposits can either be made cash, per credit or also per debit card. In case of a credit or debit card we do get an authorization for the respective amount. However if you do use a debit card, this amount shows as "deducted payment" on your bank account, eventhough we have not effectively charged the card. Upon check out, we use this approval and charge the amount spent, the remaining amount approved is being released immediately from our side, but depending on your bank it can take a few days, until they release the approval on your account. We have tried to explain this process to you on various occations and we have also sent you a confirmation from our credit card payment partner, showing that we have released the approval for the amount not used. I really feel sorry, that you left Berlin with such a bad taste and that staying with us did cause such an inconvenience for you, but please be sure, that we have not "overcharged" your card. I'll be happy to proof at any time, that we have only charged your debit card with the amount according to your hotel bill. Again, thanks for being our guest, all the best, Gregor

The hotel has a fantastic location as the main shopping district is right behind the hotel. Although that does not make the hotel a noisy one as its tucked away on a quiet street. The zoo is nearby too. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast spread great. What was exem

How far is this hotel from Alexanderplatz and does the transport run late at night back to the hotel?
The train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and It’s about a 15 min ride to AP. Trains do run late into the night.

Hi I’m looking to return here for Christmas markets at the end of November? Are the markets near hotel or are we better going somewhere else? Helpppp.. we love this hotel but don’t want to be to far away and travelling ages to get to a Christmas market
Hello from Berlin, thanks for contacting us. Sorry for my delayed answer. The big Christmas Market at Breitscheidplatz and around the Memorial Church are just a 3 Minute’s walk away. The whole Boulevard Kurfürstendamm is enlighted by millions of lights during that time, it's beautiful and there's no better place in Berlin for Christmas Shopping, because of the KaDeWe and all the shops and boutiques around the hotel. BY using public transport services like the underground line U2 you can get to Mitte and Gendarmenmarkt, round about 15 minutes by train away and you'll get to one of the most beautiful Christmas markets of Berlin. You can easily reach one or two or three of the more than 60 Christmas Markets in berlin when visiting Berlin in November, please mind that there are regularly opening at the last weekend of November. The one at Breitscheidplatz will be open from November 26th until Christmas. I hope my information helps. If you need anything else, please just contact us again. Kind and currently very sunny regards from Berlin Gregor Linhart Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre

How much does a taxi cost to this hotel How much does a bus cost and do you need to purchase a ticket beforehand. Many Thanks
Dear guest, thanks for contacting us. From Tegel it is a 20 minutes taxi ride for 8 kilometers, so the price should be between 15 and 25 euro. But as already mentioned by other travelers, going by public transport from Tegel to Zoologischer Garten might be an interesting option too. Have a save trip, please contact us again for further information, kind and very sunny regards from Berlin Anja Henning Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre

Hello from Australia, I have booked accommodation for August 2018 and I was wandering how do I get from the hotel to Berlin train station (hbf) so I can catch the dB train to Paris. I will have 3 large suitcases, is it hard to get to hbf with heavy suitcases? Or is taxi the best option.
We also traveled with heavy suitcases and we took the train to Frankfurt. So we decided on taking a taxi. Order a taxi for extra suitcases to avoid stress with small vehicles!

How do we get from the airport to the hotel, thanks
Dear mmurdoch, thanks for contacting us. Where are you flying in? If you arive at Tegel (TXL) it would be the easiest way to take the bus X9 in direction Zoologischer Garten/ Zoo station. If you are flying in at Schönefeld airport (SXF) you can use the train RB 14 in direction Nauen and get out at Zoologicher Garten. If you want to find out more about the directions, search for BVG. You will get to the website of the public transport services. Please mind, that you would have to get a ticket for the public transport serices. When starting from Schönefeld you would need an ABC ticket, from Tegel you'd only need an AB ticket. Usually the cheapest ticket option is to buy a day pass for the different zones AB, or ABC. Please do not hesitate to contact us again for further questions. Have a save trip! Warm regards Your Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre guest relations team
