Great weekend in Berlin. Hotel located in lively area and very close to all major sights - short tram ride (tram stops outside hotel and runs every 10 minutes) - Could have easily walked in and did so on a couple of occasions - staff very friendly and helpful. Short walk to the Mauerpark - huge flea market on Sunday...

Dear Joanne R, Thank you so much for the lovely review of our Hotel Kastanienhof and the high score rating. The public transportation nearby the hotel really helps to get started to discover Berlin. Great, that you enjoyed the Suite room with your familiy and that our soundproofed windows kept the urban sounds away. Next time, we would like to...

Arriving a few hours early we were greeted by very friendly staff. Room was spacious, clean and overlooking the street. A welcoming cup of coffee (free) set the friendliness of all the staff. Breakfast was excellent value. Upon knowing we would be travelling early in the morning and buying the public transport tickets at reception we were asked times we...

Just note that the tram stop is very close, so if you're really in search of a very quiet place, this might not be the case and that's why I don't give 5 stars but 4 only. Except form this, all the rest is perfect, from the beds to the friendly people working there.

Very nice location with a number of nice places to eat or to have a drink nearby. The service is very friendly and the rooms are clean and with enough space for two. You can have a nice continental breakfast buffet for less then Euro 10. Wifi is free. In the evening you can also use a public restaurant, which...

For a great rate this is a good hotel with easy access to public transportation in a safe-to-walk neighborhood with wonderful little restaurants, bars and even a laundromat. We couldn't find any way to cool the room, so we just opened the window. Street noise was a bit high. The room was very clean and the staff tried very hard...

Can't beat this location. Hotel staff was always available and very helpful. Breakfast was great!! If you don't like street noise ask for a room not facing the street. You can walk out the hotel and shop, eat or drink or hop on the tram right out front and hit up any of the must sees in Berlin. Once we...

The area around this hotel was excellent and the hotel was clean. For a cheap hotel, I would say that it was ok. The breakfast was average but the bathroom/ shower room was very small for the room that we stayed in.

Located in a youthful area that's lively and fun all hours of the day, this was the perfect hotel to stay at as a first time visitor to Berlin. With just a few minutes walk you can go to the Berlin Wall, the many shops around Weinmeisterstrabe, and restaurants with sidewalk patios full of people enjoying a meal or watching...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
