I found the beds clean and comfortable, and the corridors were quiet at night. From what I remember, the showers were also clean and worked well - although they were communal showers, not en-suite. They gave us a four bedroom dorm - rather than a one for eight people, like I'm normally used to. The breakfast in the morning was...

Stayed here for the marathon weekend with my wife and kids in a 4 bed private en-suite room. First great thing was how easy it was to get to from the airport - one train direct and the hostel is right by the station. The place is well kept even if the theme of the fittings and furniture is a...

Located 20 min by metro from the Brandenburg gate. From the hostel to the metro station takes 3 minutes walking. Nothing really interesting around but the bar outside the hostel. We reserved a private room for 4 people but we got a private room for 6 people because of overbooking. The bathroom was quite small but you have also shared...

We needed a place to crash for a night in Berlin this past summer and decided to stay at the Generator Hostel. We booked a twin room which was fairly reasonable priced. The room was certainly clean if very basic. It did have an en suite 'wet cell' with a loo and a shower which was a bit tiny but...

We stayed with 2 of my friends in a tripple room with personal bathroom. My impressions are very good: I usually don't stay at hostels, but this time I had to make an exception because of my friends! First of all - it's extremely cheap: 37 euros for our type of room for 3 people including breakfast! Secondly: although it's...

I recently stayed in Generator Hostel Berlin while passing through the city for a business meeting. The staff were extremely friendly and facilities surprising for a hostel property. A fan of the Generator brand in Dublin and London I thought I'd give their Berlin property a go. I had a private twin room with en-suite and while basic as you'd...

Generally this hostel is ok, I can recommend it. Rooms are clean, quite new furniture, staff v. nice and helpful. But there is one huge BUT when you want stay longer and/or you're quite shy person. Taking shower may become traumatic experience... of course not for everyone. There are poor curtains which supposed "hide" you and you have to handle without...

This hostel is great. It seemed to be a bit of a trek to get to when we first arrived in Berlin central but once you get the hang of the transport system it's not a big deal at all. Myself and one other girl stayed in a 6 bed dorm for 3 night in August at €10 a night....

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
