Neighbourhood
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

My friend and I stayed here for three nights while backpacking. It is a bit of a trek from the Berlin Hauptbahnhof but doable once you’re used to it. Friendly staff and spacious room. A very nice area with a Lidl 5 minutes walk away,...More

I love that those who designed the hostel capitalized on the fact that it's in an old apartment. The whole place has this 20th cozy feeling to it; it's nicely decorated, it's quite, the clientele is older than I've seen in other hostels, and the...More

I stayed at this hostel on 6-7 September 2016. The location is not very convenient, as it was far from the centre of tourist attraction and it was wasting my time and money for transport. I had to walk 5 min to the nearest tram,...More

Long overdue review. I would highly recommend staying here. Very fond memories of friendly hosts and good communal areas where great friends were made. The hosts were kind enough to let me and some friends take a casserole dish out to one of the local...More
