From the leisure club with pool and sauna in the basement to the rooftop bar this hotel exudes class . Not often you are not only shown to your room on arrival but also get a full explanation of all the room and hotel has to offer from staff who speak excellent English . The rooftop bar is wonderful with... More

My wife and I came to Berlin to assist my aging parents see the sights. The location and staff ended up being perfect with many museums and landmarks being within walking distance of my 83yo father. The furnishings are comfortable and modern. We didn't really know how much my parents could handle and the concierge, Benjamin, was extremely helpful in... More

Stayed here right before easter 2015. The best thing I will remember about this place is the kind smile of each and every single employee who caught my eyes. That for me is one very good sign that people are working with correct business and that they are "educated" about soft service. Just like a Leading Hotel should be. The... More

Everything about this hotel is quietly elegant and first rate. We spent 5 nights here at the end of August and never wanted to leave. The high points: 1. Great location near Museum Island; if you like to walk, the hotel is the perfect distance from many major sites-- if not, a taxi stand at the ready to take you... More

I loved my stay at Hotel de Rome. The atmosphere was awesome, I loved training at the gym and afterwards rewarded myself with one of the best breakfast buffets,. Definately try the pancakes with berries!

My husband and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary during our stay and the hotel spoilt us both with its room allocation and service, I would highly recommend the hotel due to its location and decor and service.

The building itself is impressive: severe, massive, one can easily believe is used to be the seat of the Dresdner Bank. The entrance is almost unobtrusive, the lobby is an hymn to understated luxury. Needless to say the personnel is impeccably trained and service is beyond perfection. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and furnished with taste, so rare in 5 Stars... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more   less
