We were pleased to find ourselves in such a lively funky neighbourhood -- between Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. We could walk out and explore by foot, or use the Rosa Luxembourg U-Bahn station, a few minutes away, for treks further afield. Alexanderplatz was close by and since we had a small kitchen, we took advantage of the food court at...

The accommodation was excellent just as described on the hotel's web site. We stayed in the "Friends Suite" which comprises 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms split over two levels. On the ground floor was the living area, small kitchen, dining area and sofa bed plus shower room / WC. Outside was a small patio area with table and chairs for...

Just returned a week ago from Berlin and would recommend Schoenhouse without reservation. We are a family of four and the accomodation was spacious and satisfactory in every regard. The garden/courtyard area in the back is lovely and tranquil. Having travelled a bit and spent time in most major cities in the America's (North and South) and Europe I can...

Spacious, clean and modern, these apartments are superb, we are a family of 4 (two older teenagers) and the apartment was ideal, with a small kitchen and dining area, massive bedroom, and clean and functional bathroom. The staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. You can hire the bikes in the courtyard for 10 euros per day per...

I was surprised when I came to the backyard and entered a different world compared to the look of the main street. Everything is in modern style, clean, nice and new. And it is a lovely design combinig vintage with modern. The appartment in the 4th floor felt new. Everything you need is there, including a fancy little balcony that...

We choose this hotel mostly because of it's location. First, it is near Alexanderplatz, when we should have left our rent car. Second, there is a metro just a few steps around. We were a little bit dissapointed when we found out that the closest metro is closed for reconstruction, but it is still very close to Alexanderplatz (10 minutes...

Spacious well equipped apartments in the interesting old "East Berlin". Our apartment which could easily have housed 6 people was a few meters up a quiet side street Schoenhouse Alle. Small well stocked supermarket and cafes and a metro station close by but Alexanderplatz was only about 10 minutes walk which is a major transport hub. Good value for money,...

We went with the 'deluxe' version and it totally exceeded my expectations. Roomy, nice little terrace, wooden beams. Walking distance (like 15-20mins) from Museum Island. Few great resturants nearby - White Trash Fast Food (hilarious menu), La ?Cucina - cheap awesome Italian. My sister slept on the fold out bed which she did find a bit uncomfortable and the double...

Apartments were a generous size, however was on 4th floor with no lift. Paid parking via a permit and street parking only. Free internet, breakfast not included but very nice cafe in foyer. Close to transport or a fair (but do-able) walk to main attractions. Berlin is a large city, spread out with a lot to see so some form...

I really liked this place. We got a Senior II apartment for 3 people. The first thing I noticed is the room is huge! It is probably two to three times the size of most hotel rooms. It was big enough that it would be nice if they walled off one side to make it a 1 bedroom instead of...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
