#15 of 339 hotels in Hamburg
Travellers' Choice
The TORTUE HAMBURG is the world en minature – refuge, home, coffee house, living room, hiding place, theatre, catwalk and opera at the same time. It’s a unique place of hospitality, diversity and French ‘Savoir-vivre’ in the middle of Hamburg. The privately managed design hotel in Hamburg’s historic city centre can be found between Jungfernstieg, Große Bleichen, Stadthausbrucke and Neuer Wall in the historic Stadthofe building. Here, guests can find everything under one roof so that they don’t need to leave the hotel. If guests want to leave, however, shopping opportunities, local and long-distance transport links, as well as numerous sights like the Elbphilharmonie or the Speicherstadt are within walking distance. Behind the building’s elegant brick facade from 1888 one can find 126 loft-like rooms in seven different categories with free WiFi and included mini bar, as well as a network of cosy courtyards and rooms with high ceilings which was designed by architectural offices David Chipperfield Architects and Stephen Williams Associates. The interior design from internationally renowned designers like Joyce Wang, Kate Hume and Stephen Williams combines different design eras, styles and moods. The French art of ‘Savoir-vivre’ – of decelerated living – can be found in many details: in the soft textiles, the extralong Divan beds from the luxury manufacturer Hypnos, the mosaic floors, the special light concepts in every room or the velvet seats throughout the hotel. Alongside its hotel business the Member of Design Hotels impresses with its gastronomic diversity. Two restaurants and three bars invite for relaxation and indulgence and offer an excellent quality and quantity. The two restaurant concepts ‘JIN GUI’ and ‘brasserie’ celebrate Asian and French-German cuisine at the highest level. The three individually designed bars ‘bar noir’ with dance floor, the private ‘bar prive’ and the smoker’s bar and luxury lounge ‘bar bleu’ round off the hotel’s gastronomic offering. TORTUE is an homage to life and the senses – a hotel in a unique location which combines relaxed lifestyle, design aesthetics, excellent service and highest quality.

This hotel is a gem. it is an independent hotel, but the rooms are beautiful, the service is excellent and the restaurant for breakfast is perfect. I cannot say anything negative, except for maybe that their telephone system is based on a tablet, which is not ideal, but other than that, this hotel feels like a home away from home.

Amazing hotel. Got early check in and a room upgrade. Awesome details with light control, comfortable bed, loved the pillows and duvet. Big rainfall shower, heated floor in the restroom, overall really nice. Complementary minibar with juice, water, sodas and beers. Breakfast seems a bit pricy, 35€, so I eat at a local bakery instead.

The torture Hamburg is locatated near Gänsemarkt making it ideal for anyone to explore the city. It is located within a historic passage that is especially during Christmas beautifully decorated with a large Christmas tree in the centre. The hotel room had very high walls (which made the room appear very large) and was decorated in an elegant stilish way that made us feel comfortable. The room was extremely clean and the ground heating made us feel immediately warm after a clod day in Hamburg. The Torture Hotel offers a great breakfast that is a combination of buffet and a la card. The a la card options were excellent, especially the french roast was one of the best we had so far. The buffet had great fresh options such as home made jam and honey. Overall this breakfast was better than we have often experienced in larger hotels given the fact that most food was made freshly and a large selection was available. We would like to come back to this hotel for our next hamburg visit and would recommend the Torture to anyone who is looking for a unique luxury experience.

This is a really nice hotel which is also somewhat 'techy.' I like the fact that there's a panel where you tap the key card to open the room door. Also for the elevator. The rooms themselves also have touch panels for different things (housekeeping, do not disturb, etc.) Kind of odd that there's no phone in the room. They do have black-out curtains, although they're not 100% black-out. The people at the front desk are friendly and speak good English. The price for breakfast is quite high - 35 Euros.

Dear Kim M, Thank you for you nice feedback! We are happy that we could inspire you from our hotel concept and of our equipment in the room. It was very important to us to keep our print media in the rooms as low as possible. You can as well find our telephone function in our suite pad in the room. We also paid special attention to the quality and freshness of our products. So we prepare a large selection of dishes exclusively à la carte for our breakfast. You are welcome to try our wide selection of egg dishes, fresh country bread, warm dishes, quark dishes and much more to your heart's content. If you are in Hamburg next time, we look forward to welcoming you again! Best regards, your TORTUE HAMBURG team

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tortue in Hamburg. Centrally located to near by shops and restaurants. The room was well appointed with complimentary stocked mini bar and wifi. Bed was comfortable with many pillows as well as nice selection of channels on TV. Bathroom had shower (no bath) in our room with marble accents and nice products to use. I would highly recommend this very beautiful boutique hotel.
