is about as good as it gets. Receptionist wanted to photocopy passport and was refused point blank. Registration form filled in instead. En-suite room was functional and wi-fi was satisfactory. However, the bathroom had chipped tiles, paint was coming off, and some mould found. Outside, the doors constantly slammed throughout the night, and people's moderate talking disturbed sleep. Positive - apart from the attempt to copy passport, friendly.
I read the reviews beforehand so was prepared for what was in store. On arrival at the hotel, we were early so asked if we could leave our cases until a suitable checking in time. The receptionist did not give a warm welcome and he grunted at our request which we took as approval. When we returned to check in later, we were glad to see there had been a shift change and were greeted by a much more pleasant employee. The hotel is not the cleanest, but the bed is comfortable enough. Despite the room (allegedly) being cleaned each day, I accidentally had left my wet towel on a seat in the room, and was surprised on my return later to find it still there – obviously still wet!! Be warned - there is no lift here and access is by a winding, narrow staircase. The reception is on the 1st floor. We stayed in room 16 which was on the top floor and accessed via 8 flights of stairs!! This hotel is definitely not for the elderly or anyone with mobility issues. On our floor, we had the only en-suite, and there was a shared toilet and 2 separate showers for the other rooms. We overlooked a street where it soon became apparent that there was a very busy brothel with noise and streetwalkers at all times of the day and night. Breakfast is served at the Hotel Mercedes which is next door, and you obtain tickets from reception at Wikinger - breakfast is continental style self-service with cereal, bread, cold meats and cheese, and occasionally (when not run out!) - boiled eggs. Despite not many seated each morning at breakfast, there was always a shortage of either glasses or cutlery and the waitress wanders around generally looking bemused. Overall, like I said in the title you get what you pay for. We chose this hotel as we were on a budget and wanted a central location – which this definitely is, would ever stop here again if returning to Hamburg? – I’m still undecided.…
We stayed here one night on our European road trip. It was a bit difficult to find as it is only one small door on the street and we were driving. The reception staff member was welcoming and directed us get our car parked in their underground parking next street over. They also helped us find the 'main restaurant area' in the city. Our room was good size and the bathroom was ok. The shower head was too big for the holder and kept dropping which was annoying but we managed one night. The breakfast was included which was served at the hotel next door. It was quite basic but better than nothing. Well to be honest we didn't pay a lot for this stay so our expectation were not high and thus were met perfectly.
Location near the central station and some tourist points (Rathaus, Maritime Museum, port, opera ...). Reasonable breakfast and good wi-fi. Parking was already full and we had to stop at a nearby hotel. Antique furniture and utensils.
Booked and paid for a room via Hotels.com but when we arrived we had to pay 80 euros extra to get the room we already paid for! The toilet is located several floors down and there is no elevator! The breakfast staff were extremely angry and even though it was 1.5 hours left until closing there was neither milk, cheese nor eggs. One tip, put your money at another hotel. Ein Tipp, setzen Sie Ihr Geld in ein anderes Hotel.…
