I stayed at this hotel with a friend during our Interrail trip. Having previously stayed at a different hotel chain offering a similar product in Hamburg and having had a good experience I was tempted to return, but when going to book I saw that the Novotel Hamburg City Alster was a little cheaper and I had previously been impressed by my stay at other recently refurbished Novotels so decided to give it a try. I must give the hotel credit for their flexibility, I had originally booked to stay in June but this wasn’t possible due to Coronavirus restrictions at the time. The hotel changed the booking for the new dates in September with no fuss and at no extra cost even though I had booked a non-flexible rate. The man on reception upon check-in was very friendly, however he didn't speak very much English which certainly tested my poor German, although this may have been because we were arriving at around 10pm and the guy may have just been the night porter. This wasn't helped by the fact that during the re-booking because of the date change it seems like they accidentally changed the booking to one for a single occupant, so there was a little confusion as to why there were two of us there, although once I realised what the guy was saying this was no problem and we just had to fill in an extra form for my friend because his details weren't given during the online check-in (which I think is also why only one of the beds is fully made up in the room photo although again, this was no problem) The room was nearly identical to the new style Novotel room I stayed in at Wien Hbf, it had modern decor, a large TV, comfortable beds and a nice bathroom. The room also seemed to be very clean. We headed out again that evening as we had booked late admission at Miniatur Wunderland (Which is 100% a must if visiting Hamburg) which was easy to get to using the nearby U-Bahn which is accessed via a long subway from just outside the hotel. When we left Miniatur Wunderland at around 1am we found there were no U-Bahn services back to the hotel, I'm not sure if they finish at this time normally or if this was due to engineering works, but either way, we got an Uber back to the hotel which was relatively inexpensive. The guy on reception was once again very friendly and greeted us as we came back into the hotel. The next morning check-out was quick and simple. While the location isn't exactly central, it's a nice hotel within 10 minutes of the town centre if using the U-Bahn and I'd likely use it again next time I'm in Hamburg providing it remained a little cheaper than the competitors hotel which I stayed in previously, which is a little closer to the town centre.…
Very good located hotel, close to the city - walking distance. Friendly staff, clean room. This time a year not crowded, maybe because of corona, We had breakfast out where it was few people. Ask for a rrom to the backyard if you dont like traffic.
Had a wonderful stay for 3 nights at Novotel City Alster. The suite was big and clean and everything worked. Breakfast had large variations to pick from and all from the staff was friendly. The hotel have undergrund parking for cars and is located next to u- bahn station so it is so easy to go around in Hamburg from the hotel.
Great hotel, modern and clean but to have one member of staff on reception on a Sunday morning meant it took 30 mins to check out and get parking validated! Absolutely ridiculous! Also, overpriced breakfast so we didn’t even bother with that.
Awful housekeeping in this Accor venue. Towels not replaced, came back after a days work and found not a single towel anywhere. Three calls to clueless reception barely able to speak German. Housekeeping will knock and enter despite sign on door. Surrounding area full of drug addicts and homeless. Lobby impossible as cold and incessant muzak. Staff basically clueless throughout.
