This extremely charming hotel is located in St Pauli (Hamburg). It used to be an iron foundry and the hotel has many traces left from this bygone era. They have succeeded in creating a fantastic design hotel with a maintained industrial feel. What is impressive is that there is a red design thread that runs through everything. The hotel's interior design together with the industrial look creates a fantastic atmosphere. The hotel breathes a calm that is rarely found in other hotels, you go here if you want to avoid mainstream hotels and appreciate very good service. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the breakfast is absolutely wonderful, what more can you expect "Erste Klasse". If you come by car, there is a nearby parking garage with a lift up to the reception. The hotel is also within easy walking distance to the subway. For those who choose to walk, you can reach central Hamburg in about 20 minutes. If you choose to live in the East, I recommend you all to really explore the St Pauli area…….

This is a very nice design hotel. Staff is friendly and very helpful. The place looks really nice and has a great atmosphere. The downstairs restaurant is built into the old foundation walls of the building where as everything else is new and modern. We had a company workshop here and used the cinema room / wedding chapel which is very nice. Coffee breaks were good as well as the buffet lunch. All in all a very recommendable option in a great Hamburg location close to St. Pauli.

This is a nice and well-designed hotel - and yet staying there was also one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had, thanks to a brazenly rude bouncer who told us into our faces he thinks we might not be actual hotel guests. The whole thing happened on our first of three nights on which we also had dinner at the hotel restaurant. After checking in in the afternoon and exploring the neighborhood a little, my husband and I came back to the hotel for our restaurant reservation. All of a sudden there was Peter W., the bouncer, and asked if we were hotel guests. We said yes and went to dinner. After dinner and a round of cocktails at the bar, we decided to get some ice cream from a little shop around the corner. On our way out, the bouncer who earlier asked us if we were guests clearly saw us. We came back with our ice cream just a few minutes later, and the bouncer stopped us and said we couldn't go inside. We told him we were hotel guests (which of course he very well knew by this point), and he said in this case we would have to go left towards the elevators to the rooms (as opposed to straight ahead where the hotel reception and bar are). This seemed rather rude to us, and I asked him why he said that given he must have been aware we were hotel guests. To which he responded: "I JUST HAVE THE FEELING YOU AREN'T REALLY GUESTS HERE." My husband and I were stunned. I asked him what would make him think such a thing. He just repeated that he had this "FEELING". This was definitely the first time in my life someone working at the hotel I'm staying told me he suspected I wasn't a real guest. I can really only speculate what made the bouncer treat us that way. My husband and I weren't drunk or acting in any kind of manner that would make us appear to be troublemakers, and we were wearing totally normal and location-appropriate clothes. Either way, we went straight to the reception desk and complained about the bouncer. The person there was nice and said she was very sorry we were being treated this way, and she indicated she would speak to the bouncer's boss who would come by later that night (apparently the bouncers are working for an external security company the hotel hired). From the reception desk we went back to the bouncer and told him we wanted to let him know that we just complained about him. He basically just shrugged and indicated he couldn't care less. The next morning, I asked reception through the chat function on a tablet in our room if there are any news regarding my complaint from the night before. They responded I could come down and talk to the manager. When I did that, the manager was very apologetic, nice and professional, and her apology seemed sincere. I asked her how the hotel would do right by us after this episode, and she said she would look into it. I told her that considering the gravity of the incident I would expect to not pay anything for our stay at the hotel - or be upgraded to a suite. The resolution they came up with was a more modest upgrade to a higher category (a bigger room with whirlpool), also the manager sent up some chocolates with a written apology for the "not entirely perfect start" to our stay. The hotel bill remained unchanged. I guess people can have different opinions whether the hotel did enough. In my opinion it wasn't, and as nice and apologetic as the manager was, I still left the hotel with a very bad taste in my mouth and have a hard time imagining coming back. I have never received such a shabby treatment in a hotel, and I think the management should have done more to make up for it. What they offered to us presumably cost them next to nothing. Also, they only offered something after I explicitly asked for some kind of compensation. Until then it was just apologies, so I think they should have been much more proactive from the moment I first complained. This was definitely a hotel stay to remember - in a very bad way.

I’m in the hotel right now - I’m up at 1:30am because the hotel rooms can all hear the booming nightclub coming from inside the lobby. So if you like trying to sleep in a nightclub, this is your place! We were told the music ends at 1am, by the front desk, but that was clearly a lie. We tried to call the front desk - there’s no phone - you have to use a complicated ipad. No one picked up. I tried calling from my cell phone - the menu was only in German….and no one picked up. My friends air conditioning didn’t work - he had to change rooms. Now mine isn’t working. Stay elsewhere!

We came here on a stag do. In a pretty rough area of Hamburg, so had low expectations The hotel was AMAZING. All of the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The bar is a great place for a drink and the barmen make the best espresso martini I've ever had. The sushi downstairs is also amazing - looks like it could ger busy, so maybe best to book. Rooms are very cool and a great place to retreat to from the chaos of the area!! Highly highly recommended

East of everything you would expect : off Reeperbahn, still quite "normal" neighbourhood ... flashy design in every single detail, colorful, busy, a bit noisy at bar times but rather lovely-lively...very well organised...checkout and breakfast till 12...a great detail for wellbeeing...cozy ( rather spacious ) accomodation... youthful staff acts top motivated...reasonable prices. Go See,feel,smell...you will love it!

The hotel is great with a real funky vibe and really good comfortable rooms with plenty of space and a good work area. I can’t rave about the rooms enough, first class. The hotel is also in a great part of town with plenty of bars and places to eat. What let’s this hotel down badly is the restaurant which is just poor, the service is rubbish the food is limited and although reasonably tasty when it arrives you better not mind waiting!!! Also due the the cool vibe of the place they appear to think it is cool to be disinterested in the customer. I have tried to like this dinning and have eaten there 6 times in the last 2 years but every time thinking “maybe last time I was unlucky” but I have always been disappointed so I have finally learnt my lesson. Summary: stay at the hotel but go out to eat.

Second time here. Was there start of June. Booked room without breakfast because at 35euro it seemed a bit high especially as you can get breakfast anywhere nearby for under 10euro. It's a very impressive hotel, not in the classical sense but full of well... very cool features. Arrived at little after 15:00 there were three receptionists. One was round the corner checking in a custumor the other two were chatting (probably about something important behind the lattice / shelf thing we got a glance and after two minutes they had some time. The room wasn't ready. So we went for a beer and came back to check-in at around 17:30. At check-in we were told breakfast was included. I asked more than once but the receptionist was adamant. I was thinking ok maybe because our rooms weren't ready? I didn't realise at the time that EAST check-in is at 16:00. So for the next couple of days went to breakfast which was kinda mediocre but had coffee, juice, fried eggs and some bacon, which at 35 euro would have been insane. Again, though they had another trick up their sleeve... It's called Ann. We we pretty hungover and tired the first day and the waitress at breakfast had a smile that lit up our day - even though the staff at breakfast start at 05:30! If you ever go there you'll see what I mean. We had our photo taken with her! At check-out they asked if we had breakfast and then added 140 to the bill. I said I was told it was included. Just got a "Sorry..No" No matter what I said or tried to explain. On return, I was about to write one of those standard scathing reviews on here but for the first time in my life, I wrote to the management about what happened expecting a "sorry please come back and have a free breakfast if ever you're in EAST again" type of response. No... a couple of days after writing I got a prompt reply and a full refund for the breakfast.... Now, EAST is an incredible hotels with the coolest rooms ever on the ground floor (best) the rooms are at garden level with a nice spacious view. On the other side of the corridor the overlook the bar/beer garden area. However, when the window's closed the could be rock concert outside and you wouldn't hear it. The AC is faultless and they also have a dial in the bathroom area which controls the underfloor heating. They have a nice touchpad in the room which explains just about everything. The TV has only two English Channels (CNBC and CNN) but you can access the USB/HDMI slots. I loved the room design. The en-suite toilet and shower are separated in two different smoked glass rooms The hotel was full but the bar guys are pretty slick and coped well, despite the amount of people. Drinks are expensive I think 8euro for a large local beer (Astra) The restaurant does some interesting things but as the place was full we opted to have our quick dinner (sushi etc.) at the bar area. That being said the bar area is also pretty slick and the service was as good as in the main restaurant. Location is perfect parallel to Reeperbahn but quiet. If you need a taxi anywhere they get you one in about 2-5 minutes. It seems the only weak point is in reception. The reason that I give this place a big 5 is they way they dealt with my issue. Sometimes, establishments mess up things the difference between them is how they attend to these issues. EAST surpassed my expectations by rapidly dealing with my (minor) breakfast mix up and this was due to a little inexperience at reception. So before you start complaining here about hotels/service give the management a chance to resolve your problem. If they get reception up to speed I'd give them a 5.5

Great room, good location Bizarre room layout with tub in middle of room, but apart from that, great room. Hotel location is perfect. Excellent breakfast with lots of choices- all possible tastes are catered for. Conference catering is unusual with a mix of cake and sushi - iits strange but it works
