Sent a reservation enquiry via their website, which resulted in an automated email response saying they would get back to me as soon as possible. I followed up with a phone call a week later, but could only leave a message asking again for a response to my enquiry. Almost another week later still no answer... If they are fully booked, good for them, but if they can’t be bothered to respond to a simple enquiry I question their concept of customer service and actually have no interest in staying there anymore...
Fantastic nice little place in the quiet district of Schlump in Hamburg. Personal and helpful reception of the hostess when we first got in touch. Key distribution could be easier and less stressfull and should be handed over personally instead of in a locker with code... Clean, nice, comfortable room in a small apartment. Personal and tasteful decor. Hadley is located in a sheltered hospital surrounded by a beautiful garden and breakfast can be taken in a charmed cafe in the same building.
My late breakfast on Sunday in Hadley’s was amazing. I was lucky to get a table even though I hadn’t booked. The staff were very friendly and the service was great! I had scrambled eggs with speck and Bircher Musil which were both very tasty! Excellent coffee as well! I tired the cappuccino and the ‘milk coffee’. It was overall extremely pleasant and I would highly recommend Hadley’s for a fantastic breakfast experience!
I really loved this place. Built in an old hospital, this B&B in the middle of Hamburg was quirky, original and felt like a home from home. It's not a B&B in the traditional sense of the term - no reception or greeting on arrival, no breakfast (unless pre-ordered which I didn't do), shared bathrooms, and bedrooms inside what feels like someone's apartment. But what an apartment. The extremely high ceilings in the bedrooms affords a "gallery" on which the bed is situated, with a (precarious) stepladder up from the main room to the bedroom. The downstairs part is therefore a really cute living room, with armchairs & sofa, writing desk and floor to ceiling windows and a view looking over a courtyard park area. So in the middle of the town,it is amazingly quiet and tranquil, but just outside the door is the centre the city. Decorated quite simply, with rugs over wooden floorboards, nice colours and nice pictures hanging on the walls,it really felt homely and cosy. Loved it. Even the bathrooms were simple, but tastefully decorated. Tea and making facilities available in the hallway of the "apartment", and an honesty bar for wines, soft drinks, sparkling water, etc. etc. Very nicely done! The entrance to the building itself is in a small beautiful courtyard with amazing architecture - really loved this aspect. And you can have breakfast just around the corner at the wonderful Hadley's cafe - friendly staff, super breakfast, just be aware that they don't open until 10.00 a.m. so for early risers not ideal. Just a couple of comments: when the confirmation email from the owners is sent, I really think a warning about the steps going up to the bedroom gallery needs to be made - this is not for everyone! the steps are very very steep with no handrail and have to be approached like a step ladder WITH CAUTION! They are also made of metal, and are very cold, especially in the period when I was visiting when it was -10 degrees outside. As well as the steps being dangerous and steep, the outside courtyard was seriously slippery during my stay there due to snow/rain freezing over and it was like an ice-skating rink - very very dangerous. Grit or salt should have been put down to avoid accidents. Additionally, I think it would be great to warn "foreigners" such as myself that some areas are communal so that we have the chance to pack at least a dressing gown and slippers for visiting the bathroom and making an early morning cup of tea (I say foreigners here because I think Germans are more used to the use of communal facilities, and probably less worried about walking around in an underdressed state than your average, prudish English person). Fresh milk in the fridge for the tea would have been appreciated also. Some little small things didn't work = e.g. the main light in the room could be controlled from upstairs in the bed area and downstairs in the room, but this switch stopped functioning at bedroom level during my stay, meaning that one had to keep going up and down steps to switch the main light on and off; a TV in the living room would also have been an asset = in our room there was only one screen in the bedroom area, but placed correctly downstairs, it could be seen from both the bedroom and the sitting room. The bed could do with an upgrade, mattress had seen better days. I also found it to be quite expensive considering no breakfast and communal facilities. However, all in all, I really loved staying here and would definitely recommend to others, and go again, maybe in the summer!…
Only a short walk from the vibrant St Pauli district & the Reeperbahn; Hadley's is a wonderful, quiet B&B with a unique feel. Though I would echo the comments in other reviews RE: the poor insulation, it really was a small blot on the copybook of an otherwise excellent stay. The rooms are very tastefully put together & the duplex style arrangement leaves the room feeling very spacious and homely. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
