The room and bathroom was small but comfortable. The location was very convenient. Nice restaurants close to the hotel and a peaceful neiborhood. The metro station is just across the road and bus stops are close too. I enjoyed staying there. The staff was friendly too.
The area is nice - the Hamburg tennis circuit just around the corner. The hotel is small (both in actual size and number of rooms) with clean room fitting the 3 stars. The staff was very friendly and helpful - a nice alternative to well-known chains.
The location I found great, nice neighborhood full of small restaurants, and the subway right in front of the Hotel, really convenient. The personal is very friendly. My room (a small double) was extremely small but it had every comfort. The lamp besides the bed was broken, but otherwise all fine. The only thing I did not like is that from the room you can hear everything going on in the other rooms and in the floor. For two people the room would have been claustrophobic, for one it was ok.
I have stayed at The Hotel am Rothenbaum on and off for many years (first time was in the early 1990'ies). A nice well kept small hotel. A nice sized double room with separate bathroom (room no. 53) was 123,00 Euros per night (king sized bed) including a small breakfast buffet. A medium/small double room like room no. 36 is 93,00 Euros per night including breakfast. The rooms do not have airconditioning so they can be quite hot on warm spring or summer days. Choose a room fronting the Rothenbaumchausee if you want to avoid too much sun. There is a tiny elevator/lift from reception to the 3rd floor. Floors 4 and 5 can only be reached using the stairway. The rooms are clean and have been repainted recently as far as I can asses (spring 2017). New carpets as well. There is a small Samsung flat screen TV in the room (room no. 53). The bathroom in room no. 53 is fairly big. However, the shower facilities are a bit odd. And regulating the water temperature is quite a bit of a challenge. The bathroom door is a bit worn/worse for wear (has been exposed to quite a bit of water/moisture over the years). There is no telephone in the room and unfortunately no tea or coffee making facilities either. The same goes for a small refrigerator - there is none. So if you bring something to drink it can't be kept cold. The hotel supposedly has a small winebar "CavaRo". However it seems to be closed or non excisting. The sign is there but the wine seems to be missing. Maybe I overlooked it - who knows? All in all The Hotel am Rothenbaum can be recommeded as an affordable place to say, with friendly staff and clean rooms. The Rothenbaum area of Hamburg is very nice, green and a bit "posh" with very expensive housing. However there are many good and affordable restaurants in the area. U-bahn Hallerstrasse is just 2 stops from the city centre!…
Just had 2 nights in this lovely small hotel. We booked a small double room (all that was available) and it was small, but the bathroom was more spacious than some other hotels we've stayed in. And to us, the room is just to sleep in. The room and bathroom were immaculate, the bed comfy and we slept well. We'd asked for a high floor and they obliged. We arrived too early for check in but they kept our bags behind reception and when we returned later they'd put the bags in the room for us - what service! All reception staff were friendly and very helpful and a guy gave us good recommendation for a brewery that we'd never had found, and good areas to visit. We didn't eat breakfast. The radiator in the room was off but it was quite warm and there's no air con if you need this mid summer. The hotel's in a good area opposite a tube station and some nice cafes and restaurants if you turn right out of the hotel and next right. It's a bit of a walk to the many city area, but nice along the Alster lake - probably about 40 mins I think or you can take the tube. Hamburg is a lovely city and we were lucky with the weather as it has an outdoor feel. It's quite spread out so you will be walking a lot, or using public transport. Hamburg seemed pricey for hotels and this hotel was good value compared to what else i'd seen. I'd recommend it.…
