The hotel was really fine. The room was clean. The hotel doesn't have receptionist during afternoon or night. You have a machine where you need to do the check-in yourself. This was not a problem. it is really easy and you have 6 different languagues. On the morning the receptionist was really friendly and offered us croissant and caffe. We spent three nights, the location is not ok, it is BETTER!!! you are very close to the Rathaus (5 min), st Pauli (4 min), Opera (8 min) and the harbour (15). Of course, my wife and I like to walk too much but .... the location was really a surprise for us, it is really good. So, i have no questions, next time we will come back.

Michaelis Hof is not an ordinary hotel; it's some 30 guestrooms located inside the HQ of a Catholic cultural institution in Hamburg. I guess that most guests are the participants to the various religious meetings held in the Catholic cultural center. And this a reason why having this kind of experience... :-) There`s not reception desk, guests receive a code for a self-check-in machine located in the street. The machine prints your plastic keycard and I had a little panic when the keycard failed to open the door.... - it was very late at night under heavy rain :-( I discovered an emergency button and to my surprise a voice answered my call and provided me with another code for the check-in machine, which ended in a new card - a good one. Rooms are small and basic, but there's everything needed for a good night sleep, including wi-fi and well-equipped bathroom. Breakfast is not included nor there`s a cafeteria, but guests are welcome to complimentary coffee and croissants upon morning departure. Location is unbeatable, in the very city centre and 30mt far from S-Bahn Line 1 station. Price equally unbeatable: 89€ / night (!)

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for one night. The hotel is one floor of a Catholic Academy with a total of about 12 rooms. Our room was quite spacious and very clean. My only complaint was that the bed and pillows were too soft so I didn't have the most comfortable sleep. Also, the hotel is located directly off of a main street so it can get quite noisy. We stayed there on a Saturday night and I think I counted about 10 ambulance/police sirens. There is also an automatic check-in process which may sound a bit daunting but it couldn't have been easier. Just put in your pin code and retrieve your key card. Very smart and efficient process. The hotel is in a good location despite the noisy street. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Location is excellent. Centrally located within walking distance from old town, shopping area, harbour city. Parking at private parking for € 10 per day, or at the street for free on saturday afternoon and sunday. Hotel is located in a building with Catholic institutions: it has no normal hotel entree. There is no reception, so you have to use an automated machine to get your key. Go to the 4th floor and find your room. Rooms are okay (nothing special, but sufficient). If you don't mind not having a reception and just want to stay cheap at a central location, it is fine. Otherwise you might want to spend more and find a real hotel.
