The Dreesen has a reputation like thunder - a traditional hotel with a great history, in a fantastic location right on the Rhine. Accordingly, I was looking forward to my stay.
On the day of arrival, I arrived a little before check-in time and was initially surprised at how run-down and dirty the hotel's underground car park was. In beautiful weather, I was then able to enjoy small, tasty meals and the beautiful view in the beer garden. That was fun.
Inside the hotel, you can still admire the old iron banisters from the Wilhelminian era, the dining room is wood-paneled and unfussy, and here too you have a great view of the Rhine and Drachenfels.
I was very disappointed with my single room. It was furnished like a parlor in a mediocre youth hostel, with IKEA-style furniture and no accents. The space in the bathroom was also very cramped. (see photos)
I was also amazed by the breakfast buffet. No fruit, no bread, no patisserie (oh, sorry! There were mini croissants. Merci à Monsieur François-Poncet?), slices of cheese and the hardest, driest rolls I have ever tried to eat.
On top of that: the lady of the house makes an effort to look after the regulars (who are sure to pay well), even knows their names and shows them the tables by the window. As a "cheap" single room guest you are benevolently ignored....
An interesting experience.

Traveled by train in 3.5 hours from Utrecht to Bonn for a weekend of activities with a small group. The surroundings were surprisingly beautiful and the location of this hotel on the Rhine overlooking the river, the hills with castles inspired us to take a bike ride with the hotel bikes.
The hotel breathes history and has had many famous guests. The welcoming welcome and the modern spacious rooms make it a wonderful stay. A delicious full breakfast with local products and we also got to experience a tasting of local specialties in the private dining room.
In winter, the garden is transformed into Wintergarten with Gluhwein, heisse Choco and cozy seating areas with fire pits.
There are also regular concerts and lectures about Beethoven who was born in Bonn. Highly recommended for groups of 20 to 150 people but also for individual guests.

This hotel has a lot of old world charm but with a modern and comfortable rooms. The rooms have everything you could need with a lovely spacious bathroom with a bath and shower (located in the bath). The staff are lovely and willing to help out with everything. The breakfasts are delicious and it is a full spread on whatever you could possibly want for breakfast. The river Rhine is right in front of you so I highly recommend a room with a river view. There is a nice Beer Garden next to the hotel, along the river as well.

We spent 200 Euros per night on what we thought was going to be a very comfortable four night stay at Hotel Dreesen but were very disappointed. The hotel is in a prime location directly looking out on to the river Rhine and in a quiet residential area in a large and historic building. Unfortunately, apart from the ground floor public rooms (no bar or anywhere to sit and look out over the Rhine, though), the bedrooms had been subjected to a modern minimalist makeover done on the cheap with any hint of comfort removed. We had a large room with a small balcony facing inland but it was so sparsely furnished with cheap-looking furniture that it felt more like staying in a youth hostel. It seems that an interior designer has had a go at it but clearly not tried to stay in the room themselves. Bare walls, charmless décor and a bathroom that resembled a hospital operating theatre did not help. What was most annoying was that the room bore no resemblance to the photos on the hotel’s website nor to the pictures on Booking.com through which we booked. These implied levels of comfort that were nowhere in evidence.
Another annoyance was the fact that both the hotel website and Booking.com show free parking available but, apart from limited on-street parking, if you want to use the underground garage there is a 15 Euro per day charge. The reception staff let us park there for free once we pointed out what their website said but other guests may not be so lucky.
The breakfast buffet was good but not exceptional given that they charge something like 23 Euros per person and we saw staff restocking the food without wearing gloves so we hope they had washed their hands first.
All in all, this was a very disappointing experience and certainly not worth anything like the amount we paid for it. We will not be returning.

Dance tea at Rheinhotel Dreesen - actually a nice idea - I danced balls there already during dance school days. Unfortunately, it was a terrible implementation: instead of a band, only a pianist who was out due to illness - so short notice that no replacement could be there by 3 pm. Information equal to zero. Instead, music from the tape was so loud that no more entertainment was possible. Welcome champagne was popped, for coffee/cake you should queue for hours in self-service. Consequence: we left and recommend: please think again about the concept and the service.

t may sound a little bit strange to say that such an old hotel has a lot potential to be really great. But essentially this is the problem of this hotel. It has a long great legacy (one they are obviously very proud of and you can even read in a Wikipedia entry) and an awesome location right at the river Rhine. But looking out of the window and looking into the past isn’t quite enough for current greatness.
The reception was very friendly and supportive, however greatness would be place visitors of the house in a way that you don’t place them right over a raging wedding party, greatness would be to ask if you had breakfast, before you just call the price with breakfast (I know sound peculiar but that’s an unnecessary discussion at checkout). The room was very clean and mostly well kept, but greatness would be to repair even the the small things like cracked lids. It's the small things.
Enough critique: The view, the location, the friendliness of the reception alone makes this hotel worth a suggestion. Free parking is a plus.
That said I don’t really know if I would stay again there, maybe the experience with the wedding party is clouding my perspective and we had just exceptional bad luck. My opinion is that this hotel is high in the „good“ range, but probably not „very good“, but as there is no good in the rating system at trip advisor and average would be far too harsh, I opted for a „very good

We had kakarlaken in our room. In this hotel they are kakarlaken. We really did not expect this from a 4-star hotel. Room is very small , shower is very small , there is no air conditioning in the room. We have been with us 3 in August. It was very hot, we had to open the windows to sleep in the night , but there are no flight windows, so many mosquitoes considering this hotel is located on the river. So a disaster, really a disaster. We're not coming back.

We have been searching for a hotel in the area we like for a few years and were never quite happy with the places we stayed at. Our trials and tribulations though have finally come to an end. We love the Dreesen. It is a historic hotel still owned by the progeny of the original founder. The house lies directly on the Rhine river offering a stunning view of the fabled Seven Mountains (think Cinderella), the Dragon’s Rock (think Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelungen) and the quaint little town of Königswinter. In good weather a promenade along the Rhine is a must. It is maybe noteworthy that the hotel while in Bonn is not close to the center, but is situated in the leafy and well-healed pool suburb of Bad Godesberg. There is public transport but without a car or a bicycle you will need to walk a bit to reach that, if you don’t want to take a taxi. The hotel offers bicycles though and the beauty of the location makes up for the rest. The hotel is in a nice historic building, has a beer garden, a good restaurant and good rooms. Those with balconies and Rhine-view are a special treat. The best thing about the Dreesen though is the competent and friendly staff. We had a lot of little requests (circumstances!) and we never heard a no. We got an early check-in, help with last minute ironing and laundry, etc. the staff is also exceptional nice and fun to converse with. We felt very welcome and at home. Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant. We will be back for sure.

I was disappointed when we arrived here. The room did not look like the pictures on booking.com. The hotel is outdated. The elevator is very small and smells like mold. They tried to renovate the bathroom, but chose money over quality. The toilet is very old, they painted the seat instead of changing it, this is very unhygienic. The shower is very small, and if the neighbours are having a shower as well, there is no waterpressure and it makes a lot of noise. The bed is a bit small for two persons but comfortable. Our room didn't have an actual balcony as mentioned on booking, but a french one - basically just a big window that you can open. Breakfast was fine but not impressive, coffee was not of good quality. Location is fine, but you do need your car to go anywhere interesting. for businesstrips, this might be ok. Don't be fooled by the banner in the hallways saying you can go to a spa/gym centre for free, this is 3km's away and the people there will look like they see water burning when you come there, wanting to go inside for free, saying you're from this hotel. Last but not least, we chose this hotel because it looked like they had a nice outside area with lounge sets where one can relax. This was nowhere to be found. They do have a Biergarten next door, but that's not a place to relax.
Taken all this into account, we payed 125 euros per night (in august), for this price we could've gotten a way better hotel with more facilities at a better location. To end with something positive; they do have a minibar free of charge, which they refill every day.

Hi!
I don't remember the exact price but it was in or around €100. Which is either a really good bargain or too much, depending on how you like your hotels.
I would advise you Google and look at the imagines available to see if it's to your liking.
Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Rob.
