Over the past several years, while attending a trade show in Dusseldorf, I have made it my policy to stay in the more restive and cultured city of Cologne. In so doing for the past 10 years, I've stayed at a number of different hotels, including the Dom, the Excelsior, the Savoy, and Hotel Fruh. This year, I decided to...

My husband and I spent a weekend in Köln and stayed at Hotel Domstern for two nights. We got a nice and cleaned room with a big window. The bathroom was also very fine and cleaned. The hotel is situated about 4 min. from the central station, and from the Dom (the Cathedral). That means very central! The staff was...

This hotel was so nice. From the outside and lobby it doesn't look like much but the room was spacious and clean, the temperature was just right, the windows opened wide and let in nice autumn air. We were in the Junior Suite on the top floor, so it was nice and quiet. You could see the cathedral if you...

This is a very nice hotel with many thoughtful details. The breakfast is very good -- almost everything homemade. Internet is free and works well -- a bonus when traveling in Europe. The room I had on the second floor was very small, but well appointed and clean. The neighborhood is convenient to the train station and close enough to...

Dear furniguru, first of all thank you very much for your feedback! We really appreciate that you let us know what you think. And of course we are especially happy that you had a great time with us. We are also really glad that you question our positioning at tripadvisor. Our response is quite clear: we are definitely NOT the...

On our trip to cologne, we consulted tripadvisor for every aspect. When we saw that the number 1 rated hotel was domstern and the prices were so low we immediately made a reservation. We got there a bite early and they let us check in early despite the room not being quite tidy yet. When we came back from seeing...

Dear armychef, thank you very much from all of us here at Domstern for your great review! We are so proud that you were the 100th guest rating our service with 5 points!! You are certainly right that the Junior Suite offers good value for money, however not all our rooms are that spacious and offer the amenities you mentioned,...

We stayed here for one night in Cologne and decided to splurge a little. The hotel was well rated (at the time of our stay) and they only had one room left for the time we were there: the Junior Suite. The price wasn't crazy, in fact for what we got, it seemed REALLY reasonable. We were not disappointed AT...

Hotel Domstern is located within walking distance of the Cathedral, train and museums. The staff is excellent. We were there for four nights and they made four great recommendations for dinner in the neighborhood.

Our stay at the Domstern really enhanced our visit to Cologne. I really feel that I got to now Cologne so much better because of the connections made through this hotel. The proprietors, Manfred and Michael, were incredibly knowledgeble about their city, and willing to freely share their information, maps, opinions. They really went over and above. As an example,...

OK if you're looking for a five-star glitzy hotel that will make you feel like you're living in a world of generic luxury, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a great little place that's conveniently located with plenty of local color, has *terrifically* attentive staff, makes your stay memorable all at a reasonable price -- look no further. Bravo to...
