First impressions were not that good. The hotel is down a side street with no pavement and there is a just a door at the ground floor with a buzzer for reception. You have to go up a flight of twisting stairs to get to reception - which is a room off the corridor which leads to the first floor rooms. Rooms are on 3 floors and there is no lift, and of course no porter to carry your bags. The rooms are clean and comfortable although our shower room was rather small. The location is ideal for the bars and restaurants and not far from the Rhine. No lounge area/bar/computer facilities which many hotels would provide. Breakfast is not available although there are plenty of cafes within a short walk. Due it the location (and also being over a night club) it was rather noisy until the early hours of the morning
I travel for a living, and spend ~250 days out of the year in hotels. Never have I been treated as poorly as I was in this hotel.
To start, it is a dirty hotel, with lots of stairs to the reception, which is basically a small office off a dark holiday. From there, things got worse.
My company was in town for the Medica, and had multiple rooms booked down the road. I booked one room here, for one night, just in case we needed another. At one point in the weeks leading up, I questioned the need to have this room, and sent a message through Orbitz, to the hotel, asking about the cancellation policy. I never heard anything back. We assumed we still had the room, and ended up needing it. Upon arrival, not only was I told that the room was cancelled, but they had no rooms. They also refused to show me any documentation showing that they received my question, and cancelled without answering me. It was a mess, and I bunked with a colleague.
I was told that the refund would come from Orbitz, but it never came. Today, I called Orbitz again and was told the hotel was now saying they kept the money, there was no cancellations allowed, even though the manager at the time said they had refunded Orbitz.
I then called the manager, and he could not have been more rude. After his 3rd “whatever,” I had enough. I am putting AMEX on the case now, but after staying in hundreds of hotels, I can say I found the pinnacle of unprofessional, dirty hotels.

Dear Indytravs, thank you for your contributions and your constructive criticism. We regret that not much enjoyed your stay with us. For the inconvenience we apologize. Sincerely, Centro Hotel Design Apart
We booked in as a group of 7 friends to have a close place to stay when the evenings got long and the nights short. The room we staid in was spotless clean and as they were just about to finish the renovations there were two little details not finished yet but not a reason to be unhappy with the place. Be prepared to climb a narrow stair case to get to your room, this might be an advantage getting back to the hotel at night :-), but could also be a struggle with big suitcases. The receptionist and stuff we crossed during the day were very nice and helpful at any moment. Even that the rooms were nonsmoking, there was an outside corridor that one could use for a smoke if needed. The price would have been appropriate if there would have been the opportunity for breakfast.
Again. Great place. Central, spotlessly clean. Wonderful rooms. Very spacious rooms. I have put a lot of my friends and colleagues there. Never a complaint. Well 1 room above the disco below. That can be annoying.
A colleague booked rooms for a group of us. Only later did we read reviews and hear about other people's issues with noise from the nightclub downstairs.
We were in town for work so this was a concern, but in the end we all slept very heavily after visiting one of the many Irish bars in the area. We had no problem with noise at all. In fact we might have been the ones making all the noise.
Large rooms, more like studio apartments, and comfortable beds. Staff friendly and helpful, and spoke excellent English. Tea and coffee making equipment - but strangely no actual tea or coffee - in the rooms. Salt and pepper provided.
From outside - and from the stairwell - it doesn't look too inviting, but the rooms were very clean and well kept.
Get the train from the airport into Düsseldorf then it's only a couple of subway stops. The hotel is then a five minute walk from the subway station. Would think this option is cheaper than getting a taxi.

"Although difficult to carry your cases to a room on the 3rd floor may just be quitter at night?"
