The Hotel-Restaurant Benger is landmarked and over 100 years in family property. Thebuilding is - at it's oldest part - over 250 years old and is as a guesthouse wirh brewery mentioned in a document from 17th century. At the 8th of may 1896 Heinrich Benger bought the guesthouse and named it "Hotel Benger". Of course he offers his self-brewed bear. 1928 Carl Benger and his wife Maria inherited the Hotel and builted a new outbuilding to increase the hotel. Since 1969 Carl-Josef Benger and his wife Ulla has been managed the Hotel in the thrid generation. Me, Alain Michelis, and my team directed the familiar atmosphere from the hotel since october 2006. We wish you a nice stay.

I have stayed at this family hotel on many occasions - small, clean, exceptionally nice staff who speak English - excellent food. Also a short distance from Burg Linn castle which is in a very picturesque setting.

All in all, the hotel is a cute building, a bit far from the city centre but with very easy access. Rustic atmosphere at the restaurant and the hallways. Bear in mind that there is no elevator and the stairways are tiny. It is a 3star hotel, so I was not expecting luxurious amenities and toiletries BUT one cannot negotiate with safety standards. I booked through booking.com an economy single so I was expecting a smallish room. I was given a very small attic room (room 33). The inclined ceiling reduced its already restricted living space by an extra 30%; I could not take more than three steps to any direction before bumping to something. There was no fridge. Major issues: a) I knocked my head on the ceilling twice while standing up from my bed. I reported that to the receptionist (twice) but she told me that there was no available room. b) its toilet was also tiny, but that was the least of my worries. It was heated by an electric heater (with no IP protection) positioned directly above the sink and less than 50cm away from the shower! The shower's glass screen was inadequately positioned lower, so every time I took a shower I was always afraid of a possible electrocution. c) a complimentary bottle of sparkling water was placed at the desk as a gesture of hospitality. Indeed, that was a good gesture...The only problem was that water was NOT suitable for consumption having already expired (I stayed in the hotel in February 2016 and the bottle's expiration date was December 2015). All the above are health and safety hazards that cannot be tolerated or negotiated with. Hotel management should take immediate measures to improve safety. Please see attached photos.

Dear Guest, Thank you for rating our hotel. So here is our comment on your review. Our economy rooms are samller than our standard rooms. And room No. 33 is one of this. Please ask for a standard room next time and you will have more space during your stay. The position of the electric heater is authorized from the fire saftey agency so there is no danger of getting a electrocution. The expiration date of the sparkling water was a failure of our housekeeping. And we have to apologize for this mistake. Of course, we don't want that you drink this water. Please inform the reception next time, so we can give you a fresh bottle. Best regards Team Hotel Benger
