Arriving at the hotel, we was excited to spend the next week in such a beautiful hotel. We checked in and immediately the friendly hospitality that we are used to on holiday in Spain was missing. We asked a few basic questions, such as what time was breakfast and where it was held and the response we got was it's all on a barcode that you have to scan with your phone. I tried to scan the barcode to get the information and it did not work. I informed them of this and they said ow well all the information is on there and they don't know the answers. I have been on many holiday's to Spain from 2* hotels to 5* and I have never encountered a resort where the reception staff did not know basic information and breakfast and dinner. We then wanted to find out about room service because we arrived just after breakfast had finished being served. They said we needed to call a number from our room. We did this and was left ringing room service for 10 minutes. We then went to reception to inform them that they were not answering and if they would be able to call or assist us in any way. Their response was this is not possible. Never in my life have I been treated as such a nusense when trying to find out basic information or needing a little assistance. Our room was not a sea view and did not have a balcony which we would not have minded much because we did not pay extra for a sea view, but bearing in mind most of the hotel was empty because of covid -19, it would have been nice for them to offer a room with a sea view or balcony since most of them were already empty. I say this because this is what has happened at most hotels that I have been to when it was quieter at the hotel. It is a nice touch that goes a long way in my eyes if it is not busy and the rooms would stay empty either way. So why not allow someone to enjoy them. We also came across major health and safety issues in the main buffet restaurant. None of the food was labelled, and it did not have any allergen information. I asked a waiter about the meat contents and nut contents of the food I was possible going to eat and he went to the kitchen, and came but very uncertain about what desert had nuts and what food may have meat in it. I am not a vegetarian but I was asking for my family member. I find this to be absolutely unacceptable that the food was not labelled and that the staff had no idea what was in the food. This is a life threatening situation if someone has a severe allergy and it is unacceptable that a 4* resort does not label it's food. The next night we decided to go to another restaurant in the resort and was met with another host of issues, the menu was only available on the barcode document. Which was not working on my phone. Then when my family member got it on her phone, the menu was in every language other than English. Again with no allergen information. I had the steak which was very nice but the chips were hard and undercooked in the middle. Very disappointing. We booked this hotel for our holiday in December because it boasted lovely food and 2 swimming pools, one being adult only. However, when we arrived we learned that the adult only pool was closed. This was a major blow for us because as a family of adults we was seeking a quiet and relaxing week lond holiday. The one pool that was open was often chaotic with children running around the pool, diving in the pool and playing ball games which would splash everywhere. All of these things were against the pool rules which were in big signs around the pool area. All the staff and lifeguard saw this happening on a daily basis and no one said anything about it to the adults of the children or to the children. We then came across another issue 6 days into our trip, for 5 days I had been sunbathing topless by the pool and on the beach as I had checked the rules around the pool area and on the website and their was no mention of not being allowed to sunbathe topless. Also being aware that in Spain full public nudity is not illegal anywhere, I assumed it was fine to sunbathe topless especially because other women were doing so throughout the holiday and all the staff members had seen and their was no issue. On the 6th day a staff member came up to me while I was laying on my front where my breasts were not showing and informed me that I was not allowed to be showing my breasts at the pool. I pointed out to her that I had been doing so for 5 days already and there was no signs or information on the website that said it was not allowed. The staff member said that it did not matter and that I was not allowed to because there was children around. I then informed her of multiple women throughout the trip who were topless around the pool and women breast feeding around the pool. She said she was not informed of this and had not seen it herself which is why they were not reprimanded. I then for the last two days wore a bikini top around the pool. But I was very upset and outraged in the double standards of our treatment at this hotel. I had multiple videos and pictures of people not following the specific hotel rules around and in the pool and I was reprimanded for something that was not a rule. Our last evening there I addressed this to the head of HR of the hotel and informed her that I wanted to make a formal complaint, realising that this was the woman who had reprimanded me at the pool. I was annoyed that they did not have a general manager I could speak to about the issue. I told her exactly why i was outraged about our treatment in this hotel and she just smiled at me the whole time, stating that if I had an issue I could send it in an email to her. I said all I wanted was the rules to be followed by the pool area and if sunbathing topless was not allowed for them to put it as an official rule so that guests are aware next time. I was so embarrassed when she told me off for being topless by the pool and as a paying guest I should not be made to feel like a nucense and a bad person for not following a rule that is not a rule! There were many more issues that would be too long to write about for this resort but I have highlighted some of the main issues we experienced at this resort. I hope no one else has this kind of terrible treatment whether you are on holiday or not by staff members. Overall the only reason I am giving this hotel 1* is because the cleaning staff were so polite and lovely and the resort itself is asthetically pleasing. But like people it does not matter how beautiful you are on the outside but your character and integrity on the inside is the determining factor. Will not be going to this resort again and will warn anyone planning to stay in the Malaga area to not stay at this resort.

Dear Sightsee788368, Many thanks for your stay in our Resort and for taking part of your time to write us a review that I am sure will help us improve in our services. Please let me go through your review so we can clarify information that is missing and to have a full version of the comments that you have state. In reception departament as in all departments in the Hotel we had to stablish new process in order to make sure health and securtity is our priority for our clientes and employees. For these reason we had implanted a QR code to had the information about the Hotel, like timing of restaurants, safe, telephones, gastronomy etc The QR code it can be scaned with your phone camera or downlow a app to scaned the code, I am really sorry if this information that it is told to all our clients was not clear to you and it cause you any trouble during your vacations. All the information on this QR code are in Spanish and English. The Hotel assigned you the room that you had booked. Please note that the hotel has 6 block of rooms but only 2 blocks are open because of the low occupanccy so unfortunately we could not give you an upgrade free of charge as we did not have anything available during your stay at our Resort. Regards the labels in our buffet, with COVID19 situation, the buffet has been affected and we had to reduce variety and have many individual dishes. We are sorry that the labels were not in place but as we open recently we have be doing changes every day to ensure a variety of individual gastronomy. Although the Chef is always available to explaind the dishes. At the moment we are in the process to put every label of allergies in our buffet. Beacause of COVID19 we have closed the adults pool area to ensure we can have all areas at the hotel as clean and desinfected as possible and reduce any risks, that means that bacause of low occupanccy we prefer only use the other 4 pools availables. I am really sorry that our Hotel did not full fill your expectations and that the internal rules of the hotel about topless were inconvenence. We stayed here in May for one week. We rented a car from Malaga airport and it took just over an hour drive to reach the hotel. Location wise, the hotel is on the outskirts of Estepona, off a busy dual carriage way, there is absolutely nothing around the hotel so a car is a must. We booked a one bedroom apartment on all inclusive basis. The rooms are huge, and a word of warning if you are planning on booking a one bedroom apartment: they consist of a large lounge and kitchen on the ground floor, the bedroom and bathroom are upstairs up a very very steep and narrowish staircase....not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties. We were not aware of this and had to ask for change of room on one level one as a person in our party was recovering from knee injury and could not manage those stairs. Fabio at reception was exceptionally kind and allowed us to swap to a more appropriate room. Apartments are large, comfortable, quiet and clean. Have had bestest sleep while on holiday. The hotel is large and well spread out, it did not feel crowded. We were all inclusive and the food was great at every meal, huge choice of everything, cooked perfectly, really cannot fault. Chef Emilio is great, will cook you fresh fish/meat to taste and a great guy to chat with. Davinia always greates up warmly on arrival to the restaurant. There was live entertainment few times while we were there. Having a car while staying here is a must, parking is free. We had a really relaxing week here and would consider returning.

We visited Hotel Fuerte Estepona mid October for 6 days. Hotel is beautiful. Peaceful, tranquil in a great location, situated right on beach & only 5 mins in taxi to Estepona town. We upgraded (€10 a night) to huge 2 bedroom suite with massive balcony overlooking the sea. Scrupulously clean everywhere. Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Only ate for breakfast but very nice with good selection. Otherwise go into Estepona port or Puerto de la Duquesa where you have an abundance of great restaurants. Overall we loved Hotel Fuerte & would definitely recommend.

It’s a beautiful hotel with very large comfortable rooms. Designed really well for families and adults alike. My one criticism is there is not much information in English. We knew nothing about activities until the last hours of our holiday. This hotel seems to cater mostly for Germans. It’s out of town so you would need to hire a car.

Stayed at Hotel Fuerte Estepona for a week in October 2019 with family (wife and 2 small kids) Overall, it is a nice looking hotel, rooms are big and comfortable. Hotel is spread out and has 6 different blocks of buildings, we got our room in the main building, so everything was really close and nearby. Pools were clean and there were always plenty sunbeds. We have visited Greece and Cyprus hotels before with family and this is first hotel, where there was really no fight for the sunbeds. We had all-inclusive package, definitely recommended for this hotel as although it is not far from city and there are actually 2 supermarkets nearby, it is really difficult to reach them, as you have to run across busy highway and then walk a bit through what looks like abandoned road. So unless you take all-inclusive, you probably need to rent a car or use taxis (which do not cost that much getting into city and back). Food had good quality, kids usually always found something to eat, plenty of fresh fruits, nice selection of sweets etc. Hotel did have some issues with service though as during our stay, for 2 days there was really big waiting line to actually get to restaurant (had to wait around 20-30 minutes). On other days, everything was fine, although there was always a short line with live cooking counter. Beach was nearby, mainly sand/small rocks. There is a nudist beach right next-door and at times some people wondered over, but it was not really a problem. There was also sunbed rental at beach. We had family room with sea-view and balcony, no complaints, it was nicely decorated and even had a bath. Room service was good and efficient. Wifi was very quick and we had no real issues with it, much better than we have experienced in Greece. For entertainment, they did not have program every day, but it was okey, kids minidisco was on 3 days of week, there were also other activities. We experienced really good weather during our stay, a few days were really windy, but with temperatures over 30 degrees, it was not cold. Overall it was a strong 4-star hotel with good price/quality ratio. Small issues with very busy restaurant at times and location (they could invest a bit, so that it would be possible to walk to supermarket without dangerously running across highway).
