There was no logic to us choosing the Gran Hotel Victoria due to an enforced overnight stay in Santander (thanks Brittany Ferries). However, as it turns out, the locations is excellent, the hotel (and our room) was exceptional and the staff are very friendly. For very little money at all - we got a massive double room with the biggest bed I have ever seen. Everything was spotlessly clean and provided everything you would want from a hotel. If there was one downside, it is that the parking seems to be quite expensive. However, it is underground and very secure and safe. Further research indicated however that the cost of the parking is less than the average for the area. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.
we arrived very late to this hotel (delayed ferry did not get there until the small hours of the morning but the welcome was very warm and friendly - modern rooms - clear bright airy just perfect the views over the bay are lovely breakfast was everything you would want we stayed just one night but it was comfortable and a great start to our holiday
We loved this hotel: beautiful rooms, very convenient for Santander. Breakfasts were excellent, although the coffee could have been slightly stronger: I think the coffee was powdered. Maybe that is what you get everywhere in Spain!
We've just spent 3 nights here and I feel it's definitely more a 3 than 4 star hotel. The rooms are rather dated and bland, 2 beds pushed together not a double, no accessible plugs (had to move furniture and unplug the tv or phone to charge my phone), breakfast was OK but not 4 star, the dinner was nice though. Staff were a mix - most were friendly but the worst thing was in Saturday night when they have a wedding going on until past midnight with music blaring out (they didnt warn usbl of this at booking) and us and our baby are trying to sleep the receptionist said he didnt know how long it was going on for, didn't apologise or offer any kind of solution and then said at least our rooms had a nice view! Definitely not 4 star service there..
We stayed a couple of days for a quick visit of Santander. The staff was nice but since I am Spanish, they just spoke Spanish and didn't care much about my boyfriend who's Norwegian. I would say it's ok for a 3-stars, but not 4. The rooms are a bit downdated, not enough plugs, not enough amenities, they gave us double bed (2 beds together) and it's not the first time we are in a room like that but in this case the beds opened so we couldn't sleep in the middle. Breakfast didn't have enough variety for a continental breakfast, only eggs and bacon but no beans, no sausages, no creppes/pancakes... And dinner not spectacular and they were clearly understaffed because the waiters were really stressed, not nice in a 4-stars.
