Since seeing the movie, The Way and deciding I wanted to walk the Camino de Santiago, I knew staying at the Parador Leon had to be included in my Camino experience. I'm so glad I allowed myself this indulgence. Both the hotel and the adjoining San Marcos were beautiful and filled with history. I found the room and bath to...

This beautiful hotel/ex-monastery was built starting in the 16th century. The cloister and church next door are a must to visit. Make sure you read all of details about the history on the walls around the cloister. Ask to stay in the old part of the hotel because the newer part (1970's) is not a good addition to this beautiful building....

Stayed a couple of nights. The cloister is very good but wouldn't expect anything else from a Parador. Breakfast was amazing. Room was great. The staff was very helpful. Thank god for gps though. It was a bit difficult to find.

During my pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago I stopped for two nights at the Parador. What an amazing experience. The palacial building filled my with awe before I set foot inside. The check-in was efficient and friendly and the clerk was happy to organize an in-room massage and guide me to a couple of stores I needed to find...

After weeks on The Camino as a walking pilgrim and having stayed at albergues along the way, I decided to treat myself to two nights at this Parador. Other friends of mine heard what I was doing and they booked as well. The Parador offers a pilgrim rate, which is ridiculously great. For 187 euro, I had two nights that...

The view of the hotel as you approach is as good as it gets - added to the on-site car parking, which is a real bonus. The reception is housed in a grand entrance hall but then things start to go a little downhill. Service is fine but you get the impression that you are being processed, not really welcomed....

The parador in Leon is worth a visit and it has many interetsing features but is not in the best location. The bedroom was okay but not as interesting as we have seen in other paradors. There were slippers provided but for two left feet! The bathroom was a good size and well stocked. The door to the balcony didnt...

The Hostal San Marcos de Léon occupies a beautiful and very large building, the former seat of the medieval Knights of Santiago. The guest rooms are large and well-furnished (ours looked out onto an elegant Italianate garden). The corridors can be very long but in compensation they are lined with antiques and art work. The parador also includes a handsome...

Very detailed historical explanations mounted everywhere. Generous sized very clean room, bed way past replacement date, bathroom huge with every kind of goodie. Impression was that it has been well tended without making any capital investments although bathroom seemed very new. 45€ pilgrim dinner was excellent value 5-6 courses and two bottles of wine. Very professional service.

It would be such a wasted opportunity to stay anywhere else when you visit Leon. OK, it's not the best location - a good 15 minute walk to the Cathedral and old town - but it IS the most impressive place. How often does one get the chance to stay in a Renaissance building, complete with cloisers, art works antiques...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hostal de San Marcos is one of the most extraordinary historic hotels on the Old Continent. Construction of the building was begun in the 16th century, together with the bridge across the River Bernesga in the outskirts of León. It was built to house the peninsula's western headquarters for the Military Order of Saint James. The project was financed by King Ferdinand the Catholic. The magnificent hotel is a museum of stately function rooms, with a spectacular cloister and chapter house; spacious, elegant guest rooms; a library; and a wonderful restaurant that offers beautifully prepared traditional cuisine. ... more   less
