Very smart boutique hotel with all modern conveniences such as in room wifi. The design of the layout, architectural feaures makes this a pleasure on the senses. The bedroom had a backlight display feature wall. All the lighting is subdued and for effect. Very atmospheric. The staff are delightful and assist every need. Cannot fault at any level.

This is such a stylish hotel. The public spaces are beautiful in the modernista style. Both restaurant areas are exceptional as is the food on offer. Staff are helpful and pleasant. We had no complaints about noise. Room 319. The hotel is in a great location to access the sights of Barcelona and the short walk from the Ramblas to...

This hotel is so central to all that is happening in Barcelona and I'd go back there in a heart beat. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed with a balcony overlooking the Carre Sant Pau - which was lively so you had the option of closing up the room and shutting out the sound if you felt you...

This hotel is smart, comfortable, thoughtful and very clean. The service from top to bottom was excellent and could not be faulted. The room service options were a little basic, but the food I ate was quick and very tasty. I was impressed. The rooms are typically European sized but modern, fresh and clean. The shower's great and the best...

Perfect for Las Ramblas, this hotel made a great base for a three night visit. Just off the main drag so it's quiet. The bar was great and we managed to see El Classico in there with loads of food for a very reasonable price. I will be returning there.

Went to Barcelona for a look around. This is a comfortable, modern hotel ideally situated to explore Las Ramblas and beyond. Liceu Metro within 200 yards. Can't comment on the food or the bar. Ate and drank out. Service good but reminders needed for adequate milk for a morning cup of tea. €34 taxi fare to airport - door to...

I personally prefer a slightly older, more classic style in hotels so Hotel Espana was a good choice for me. I found the staff to be efficient & friendly. It is very well located just off Las Ramblas but you always have to be wary of pick-pockets & bag snatchers in the immediate area. My partner & I stayed in...

Good location near city center, the port & local market and "Las Ramblas" but that comes with some challenges as the local side streets and area are sub-optimal. Others have mentioned the street, graffiti and pick pockets. Every morning I went for a run before sunrise it was clear this was a "red light" corner with ladies waiting for business....

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building.
