Just back after 3 nights. Is this a posh hotel? No. But it’s not expensive either. Is it clean? Yeah. The rooms were cleaned each day and we had fresh towels and bedding. What more do you want for a few days? After all you’re only using the room to sleep in anyway. Great location right next to the market. Lots of bars and places to eat close by. Staff on the reception were very friendly. It was secure, no one had anything go missing and despite being so close to the main drag the rooms were quiet. I’ve only give it 3 stars because it’s a basic hotel.

Booked as a deal with lastminute.com. Easily accessible from Barcelona Airport T2 via Aeropuerto bus (Hotel sells ticket). Arrived at 2pm, lady was friendly but not over friendly and she was helpful. Went to our room, there was not a very nice smell when opening the door, our door didn’t not lock so we ended up barricading it in. General cleanliness was ok, but I found hairs in the bed, no mattress protector, the bath could do with some mould remover and a good scrub.

We explored Las Ramblas and headed back to the hotel at 6pm, the noise was unbelievable but expected due to the busy area and time of day. Helpful receptionist booked us a taxi to Opium in Barcelona for the evening.

Arrived back at 00:00 to head to sleep as Opium was not open for dinner. The noise during the night was extremely loud from 00:00 to 06:00 and it was difficult to sleep. Maybe request a room away from the strip? Even so, the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was ok (Not many choices for vegan/vegetarian) but would do the job if you ate the selection.

Hotel is easy access to many metro lines and took 15 minutes to La Sagrada Família. All in all an ok stay, worth it for the price we paid but probably wouldn’t stay again purely based on the noise and cleanliness. Staff however were helpful!

The positives
1. Location is excellent, I min you are at the underground station and about 10 mins you are at the major Placa de Catalunya station with access to underground, over ground, bus and airport bus (aero bus).
2, Room was clean on arrival
3. Staff friendly and helpful
4. Space to leave your baggage after you checkout.
5. Free Wifi
6. Safe

The negatives
1. The air con was poor room was too warm despite changing temp on thermostat
2. Fake window, does no lead to outside so no air but allowed noise in from other people staying.
3 Bathroom floor was in bad condition

Suggestions 1. Adding hand rail in bathroom bath can be slippery. 2 Have a curtain rail not the sheet of glass that covers only half the bath and water still sprays on the floor.

Arrived at the hotel to find 4 beds squashed into a room. Air conditioning was not working and there was a hole in the ceiling the room smelt of boiled cabbage.

The booking said it had an internal view but no main window in the room. The little window in the room could not be opened, which is a health and safety issue!

The wardrobe had no hangers or pole. There was very little space to move around, the bath plug did not fit and the shower was fixed the wrong way round.

When we complained to reception they were not bothered and said they did not have any other rooms till the day we were due to leave on Monday. As we were not happy with the room the receptionist cancelled our room and left us stranded.

Whilst we were in reception other people we coming and complaining about the air conditioning not working. There were holes in the ceilings in the lobby area, breakfast area.

Luckily 6 hours later we found a great hotel called hotel Condal bcn who gave great service and all facilities worked.

Not sure when the hotel moderno was last inspected but in my opinion it should be shut down.

Do not rely on the pictures on the website. Booked a family room for 4, on arriving it was a small room crammed with 4 single beds. Room smelt, air con not working, one small window facing a wall that was locked and could not be opened. No wardrobe, just a cupboard with 4 shelves. Small cramped bathroom and toilet (hairs in the bath). Asked to change rooms but told nothing available until the day we were departing, no manager available to speak to until the day we were departing !!! Would not recommend this hotel, it would spoil your holiday.

Can’t fault this hotel. Literally 20 paces from La Rambla so very central.
Double room in second floor clean, tidy and very comfy. Fridge, hairdryer, safe - had all the things required and hotel staff very helpful if there was something we needed that wasn’t already in room.
Slept like a log. Bed really comfy with memory foam pillows. Cleaners came in every day to make bed and clean bathroom. Didn’t need towels to be changed but clean ones provided each day.
Breakfast was excellent. So much choice and constantly topped up with fresh food.
Staff ever so friendly and accommodating. Would definitely book again.

Stayed at Moderno Hotel. Great location literally 50 metres from Las Ramblas and 150 metres to the food Market. Size of rooms good, facilities worked, reception was pleasant and helpful. Rooms were not clean well. Floors and surfaces needed attention. Aircon has a bad odour

10/10! Booked for a stag do - and thought we’d just be getting a very basic accommodation but far exceeded, great location, really accessible, nicer than imagined and the staff really really helpful too - would recommend highly! 20 mins from airport, 60 seconds to bars restaurants etc.

I booked this hotel for 3 nights for Feb 2021 and would like to change the date for check in due to COVID-19. I phone and email this hotel many many times but they never reply nor answer the phone. This hotel may be already closed for business and please avoid to book this hotel further. They seem like no body work there anymore and just have the website to cheat people money. Please do not book this hotel or you will lose your money.

Hotel is in a great central location. A couple of steps off Las Rambla. We walked everywhere in the city and despite multiple warnings of watching my bag etc we felt safe day and night around the hotel. Glad of a street facing room because we liked watching the goings on but as with city life it was noisy all night at weekend- but that's why we chose central! Room on the basic side but fine. No kettle but large cold fridge.

Roof terrace was fab! We took our own drinks up every night and watched the sun go down

As for staff they were wonderful! Lent us an umbrella 2 days when it looked like rain and most importantly my husband left his wallet in the room. They rang and emailed instantly. I gave our address and as we had 3 nights in Mallorca the wallet beat us home!! Can't believe they were so kind and efficient. Thanks so much!!! 5* service

We caught a taxi as the hotel is a fair distance away from the airport. However the bus service is very good. I would imagine you would have to catch a bus to the center of Barcelona and change for your hotel. There is a large square at the top of la Rambles and it is a short walk from there. Stay on the right hand side of the road when walking down and your hotel is just past the market. Hope this helps and have a great time

Hi Safe box in rooms ? Balcony in rooms for smoking ?
Answer from Chris M
Blaby, United Kingdom11 contributions3 helpful votes
Only rooms on the outside of the building have balcony's but not bigger enough to walk on and it is a no smoking hotel, I stood in the street on Las Rambles to have a cigarette, 30 seconds from the main door of the hotel and all rooms have safe boxes.

We took the airport bus to the last stop- a large plaza that is about 8-10 minutes walking distance to the Moderno. From the plaza, go to La Rambla. You will be at the 'top'. Just walk down until you are at the Carrer de l'Hospital on your right. The hotel is right there. Some further advice... ask for a room with a window out onto the street as some rooms have 'windows' that open up into the heating system...
