At first the area the hotel is located in seemed a bit dodgy but it turned out to be quite safe and a real gem amidst the chaos. It's a short walk to La Rambla and enters La Rambla about halfway between the Columbus monument and Plaza de Catalunya. The hotel is newly renovated and the room was small, but...

We stayed at the Abba Rambla for 2 nights in late June, 2010. The location was central to all the sites you want to see. It is located off the actual Las Ramblas (3 blocks) on a street named Rambla Del Raval. The room was very nice and very clean and the staff was wonderful. A thing to keep in...

I wasn't too sure abt the hotel because of the reviews but I thought it was awesome for the price. The room was a good size, the best part was there was a blacony which over-looked the rambla del raval and it sort of gave you a feel of the city whilst in the room. The rambla del raval is...

I actually stayed at the Abba Rambla 4 years ago now. Just wanted to say I'm really surprised at all the 'dangerous location' comments. I stayed for 4 days in Feb '06 (ticked the '07 box here because no '06 option), a holiday with a male friend (I'm female) and we had no problems with getting to and from the...

After reading reviews about the area I was worried, but had no problems. My daughter and I walked to the hotel (15 mins) from Playa Catalunya with suitcases after 10pm and no one bothered us. We did work out exactly where we were going beforehand (no maps or guide books on show). Hotel was modern, clean and staff were friendly....

Just got back from this hotel, great value hotel in a very central location on a lovely square. Don't let the locals hanging around frighten you, they won't bother you, they are a mix of Spanish old timers and immigrants. I have been to Barcelona on many occasions and the usual rules apply as with any city regarding safety. Hotel...

I stayed at ABBA with wife , brother & Sister-in-law on May 10. We were using the hotel as a over nighter for a cruise on the Med sea on the 11th. The hotel is located in a 'seedy' part of Barcelona. We knew this when we booked thanks to TripAdvisor. We didn't care since we were not going to'Do...

We were a group of 4 women aged 30 to 55, staying in Barcelona Mon-Wed. We caught the bus from girona to barcelona then a cab from the bus station to the hotel. Bus took just over an hour and cost 20e return, cab costs between 9e and 18e 1 way (have hotel and bus station address written down) ....

We booked a room for 3 people at 120-130 euros and it's GREAT. It's initially a double room but we asked for an extra bed at no extra cost. Receptionists are very helpful. Room is clean. Bathroom is quite spacious and nice. Location is very central. The neighborhood is nice (palm trees and people sitting watching the world passing by)...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
