We enjoyed a Silver Wedding family brief weekend break in March staying at Hotel 1898. Really classy luxury right in a central location at the top of Las Ramblas with realy helpful & welcoming staff. Hotel converted from former HQ of Phillipines Tobacco & Cigar Company, lots of dark colours & subdued lighting. Really comfortable wide beds with choice of...

Stayed at Hotel 1898 in February when my wife and I were in Barcelona to see Barca play Seville in La Liga. Could not fault it in any way. Staff were very friendly and helpful and all facilities were excellent. Just a bit chilly to try out the rooftop pool! Will definitely stay here on any future visit to Barcelona.

The hotel is a lovely boutique-ish bolthole, smack bang in the middle of everything in bustling Barcelona. Location: Just off the Ramblas, a stone's throw from the fantastic Boqueria market it is perfectly located to walk or take public transport all over the city. The Raval district is a bit like Shoreditch or a Soho of 20 years ago if...

As a Catalan born girl who grew up in the UK, this hotel met all my expectations. Taking a trip to my birthplace usually involved staying with family, however this time around we decided to upgrade and stay in the heart of the city (on the top of La Rambla), and this was our abode for a few nights. We...

Located on the Ramblas, convenient for exploring Barcelona. Room was clean and nice. Wi-fi is free, could not find films on their TV system, not sure they have it. The bed was comfortable, they offer a choice of pillows. Breakfasts are great -- excellent choice of everything, including white wine and cava. Gym rather small (two runners maximum). Small pool...

We've stayed at the wonderful 1898 several times over the last few years. We've travelled widely in Europe and return to this hotel time and again. Its location is unsurpassed, right on Las Ramblas. The interior is cool and clean, with plenty of marble. We often stay in a superior room which looks over a small square with a buzzing...

My wife and I spent 4 wonderful fun-filled nights at H1898 and couldn't have been more impressed with this jewel of a hotel. The hotel is perfectly located just steps from Las Ramblas which made it a perfect starting point from which to get to all of Barcelona's top attractions. The hotel itself is impeccably decorated and the rooms very...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
