I stayed in this hotel with two other friends this summer. It was absolutely perfect! It was even better than what I expected. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely helpful and professional. My only regret is that I wanted to stay longer! If you want to be on the Rambla, this is the hotel. The tapas...

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here for 5 days. What a beautiful hotel. The spa room downstairs was a great end to busy days. There is a pool in the spa as well as on the terrace. The staff were friendly and very accomdating. The terrace breakfast, although slightly pricey is worth at least once, the views from the...

Stayed between 20-24 Sept. Excellent location on the Rambla. The best way to arrive is to take the airport bus to Catalunya Plaza and from there walk five minutes to H1898. The hotel, in the building of the former Philippines Tobacco Company, is decorated beautifully in colonial style. I particularly liked the idea of black and white movie films shown...

by the many travellers who praised the location, rooms, facilities, the building, the rooftop(book a lounger with a view one evening..order a bottle of cava.......and relish the moment) and particularly the people; their discreet attention that will on request turn in to full support and advice was exceptional. We had a room overlooking Las Ramblas and noise wasn't a problem....

Beautifully decorated hotel in a great location. Hotel staff was very professional and helped us navigate the city by giving us directions, restaurant recommendations and making reservations for us. Our room was well appointed, large enough, quiet and had everything we needed. The breakfast offerings were fabulous with everything you could possibly want. The location on La Rambla was special...

Stayed here for 3 nights, arrived early after transatlantic flight, room was ready, very clean and modern. Loved the rooftop terrace, great view and place to relax. Pool was cold ! Street noise was not an issue even though right on La Rambla.

We spent 3 nights at H1898 in August with our two kids, 11 and 14. We were actually warned about the area being too noisy, and that we would not want to stay on the Ramblas, but, surprisingly, our room was very quiet and we really enjoyed being in the middle of it all. The kids loved being able to...

My husband and I just spent the last 4 nights of our honeymoon at 1898. Aside from the fact that the front desk didn't care that it was our honeymoon we had an enjoyable time. The hotel is a bit dark but lovely, clean and comfortable. Even though it is right on the Rambla it was quiet and the roof...

This is a great hotel. The rooms are small (for $300/night) but very nice. Great amenities. One of my favorite features was the roof top pool and bar and restaurant with great views. It is in the midst of the La Rambla Avenue activity so not bad walking to anywhere and easy Metro system nearby to go anywhere. The staff...

We've just spent 3 nights at Hotel 1898 and it was brilliant. It's very central to all the tourist sites and shopping. When we arrived Monica did a fantastic job of describing the best way to walk to where we wanted to go and suggested some great Tapas bars (they were all great). All the staff at the hotel were...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
