Catalonia Avinyo hotel stands in a privileged location in the centre of Barcelona. Only a few metres from Ferran and Ample street and very close to Las Ramblas and Plaza Sant Jaume. This hotel is situated on Avinyo street plenty of tradition and character and with a wide variety of modern shops and boutiques and located in the real heart of the Gothic Quarter. Other places of interest near the hotel include the Cathedral and Liceu.

Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The double room was of correct size, the double bed very large and the bedding of good quality, comfortable enough.
The shower room was quite simple with a appreciated rain shower. On the other hand, probably due to insufficient ventilation in the bathroom, a very mild smell of mold was omnipresent in the room, not really top.
As for the Award paid, rather expensive I imagine it corresponds to the standard of Barcelona, a city invaded by tourists.

Nice surprise for this hotel very well placed, very clean with nice decoration and a very pleasant welcome. We took a double room (2 beds 1 meter wide) with balcony overlooking the outside and views of the alleys of the Gothic Quarter. We enjoyed it very much: the blackout curtains, the very good bedding, the real hair dryer, impeccable room service, welcome drink and bottle of water on arrival. You can leave your luggage in your luggage. The hotel is central, subway very close, bakeries, restaurants and bars in the neighborhood (and everywhere else), as well as the very beautiful Place Réal.

The location of the hotel is its great strength, in the Gothic Quarter, one block from Ferran Street where there are many bars, restaurants and businesses. At the hotel we would have liked them to give us the room earlier since we had warned that due to the train schedule we would arrive a couple of hours before check-in. It was also difficult to manage late check out, so we booked an extra night paying a much higher price than what we had previously reserved. The hotel is very nice and modern, the two elevators are always available. The room could have a storage space that does not leave things visible and an aromatization system since there are times when bad odors are felt. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The perfect bathroom.

We stayed here 11-14th May and thought it was a really good hotel. The location was perfect - situated in a quiet part of the stunning gothic quarter yet only a few minutes walk from bustling La Ramblas, Placa Reial and Liceu metro. The hotel itself has a bakery/cafe, nice seating area around reception, small gym and a small rooftop pool/sunbathing area. There was a tea/coffee vending machine on our floor as well as a drinks/snacks vending machine that we didn't use as there is a supermarket directly opposite the hotel. Breakfast was nice, all the usual continental offerings as well as some hot choices too. Plenty juices and nice teas and coffees Our room was 102 - we had requested a higher floor (less noisy). However, we had an early flight and arrived mid morning; after reception called housekeeping we only had to wait a little while to be allowed to check in early so perhaps this was the first available as the hotel was full. The room wasn't overly big or luxurious. However, it was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The bed was wide and comfortable, the rain shower was good (there was also a hand held shower too). There wasn't a kettle but we were aware of this and took our own collapsible travel kettle. Mini bar (we used as a fridge for milk) good hairdryer, adequate clothes storage and toiletries supplied. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day with fresh towels. Every single member of staff we encountered were lovely and professional. A special mention to David on reception for his help and cheeriness and the breakfast girls who single handedly manged this alone (one on our first 2 days and the other on the last day). All in all, we were pleased to have chosen Hotel Catalonia Avinyo. We would absolutely recommend and will definitely return when we next visit the amazing Barcelona

To us, wanting to live in and experience the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona whilst also having the amenities of a fresh and modern hotel at our disposal, this turned out to be absolutely amazing. Everything seemed to be within reach, and only minutes of walking away, except for the obvious sites on the mountains, the Sagrada Familia and Güell Park. Taking the few minutes to figure out the metro system made all those other sites available at the blink of only a metro ticket or a glimpse at how to get to one of the cable car towers.
The hotel staff went above and beyond to solve any issues and were alle extremely helpful. The room was clean and tidy, and the bathroom was bigger than usual. The beds were very comfortable, and at night the rooms were so quiet that sleeping was never an issue.
The absolute best parts of the hotel, was the location, the modern feel and look and again, being within 100 meters of a multitude of bars, restaurants, picturesque sqaures and the very familiar narrow streets of the old town.
The only thing we would advise the hotel to change, would be the opening hours for their amazing rooftop terrace. Just close of the pool part, and leave the other end open for more hours, as this was a great place to spend time and lick the sun. As there are no other outdoors places for hotel guests to have a sit-down, it would be great if the terrace was open from breakfast hours in the morning and until later at night.
We were four adults, spending 6 nights at this hotel, in September 2022.

The hotel itself is in a great location, quite close to the center, a bit far from the beach but you can easily get there with 30 minutes walk or 10 by taxi. The room was beautiful, spacious and clean, had no balcony. The staff super welcoming and friendly to customers. The hotel is all in all quiet and therefore you can afford a lot of privacy. Close to restaurants, bars, and especially close to the Rambla, so strategic point, as already mentioned earlier. The only flaw ... the pool on the top floor was not as clean as in the photos, it was in fact a greenish color, they probably had to clean it because dirty. But all in all my experience was great, I was satisfied and would probably return.

I am a full-time wheelchair user so I am always looking for accessible rooms. This one was in a great Gothic Quarter location but I am glad I only stayed one night. The ground floor room had no view and a tiny window looking onto a courtyard. The handicap bar by the toilet was too small for both hands. There roll-in shower handicap bar was located outside the shower.

I really loved this hotel. The interior is clean and in order. I booked a superior room on the 6th floor and it was very quiet with good amenities, plenty of hot water, a big shower, 2 shower robes, and everything was super clean. The double bed was very comfortable and the desk was perfect to do some work. A complimentary bottle of water in the room was perfect to be used with some tea or coffee. The only thing is that there was any view from the window because it was looking at the interior roof, but just outside of the door there was the roof terrace with a small pool and tables and chairs to spend some time. The view of the city from there is very nice. The front desk staff was very attentive and very nice. The breakfast buffet was served on the lower floor. Full of choices from yogurt to croissants and pastries and a nice collection of cereals and dry fruits. There is also a coffee bar in the hall that is open all day long. The hotel is within walking distance to the port and it is in heart of the Gothic quarter and there are lots to see in the area.

In nightmare experience Next to the room we have a French couple who turn on the music very loudly for three evenings in a row until 1am when they go out for their nightlife I make my complaints at the reception and apart from a phone call nothing happens On the third evening we decide to go to another facility and then they offer us a room change. Too bad the room was a trap with broken floors, walls and peeling ceilings Lingering smoke smell and so on. Cigarette traces in the room Exasperated we accept the same also because we had already paid On the last day, the management offers us a discount of 18 euros per day less than the cost of our small dog per day We accept but still start the process with Booking for the refund

Great location and very clean! Awesome breakfast buffet, great selection and fantastic food, although expensive. ALL the staff was excellent, from the people at the front desk to housekeeping to the women who run the buffet. The hotel coffee bar was also great. I would highly recommend!!! The only two things I could criticize was that the pool was minuscule and the water not deep enough. And they need to hire more cleaning staff, as the rooms are cleaned quite late in the day and if you need to check-in early, they cannot accommodate you.

Yes, they did offer services for keeping your luggage before and after check-in. Just call on or ask at the front desk :) Have a great stay in Barcelona!
