The location and the view from the window were brilliant, everything was within easy walking distance and the parking ticket for the Marinara car park was €5 cheaper.
The downside is that located in a pedestrian zone, it is impossible to get there by car.
The hotel recommends parking which is a little expensive but it is possible to park 5 minutes away in a normal space and a disabled parking space.
The location is the best possible, you can easily walk to any site of interest and there is plenty, you don't need a car if you stay here. I warmly recommend this place and am looking forward to coming back again.
The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable: it was just a shame that our window was on an internal shaft.
We didn't try breakfast because there are bars or pastry shops nearby where you can sit and choose what you prefer.
Advised.
As we arrived about 6:30 in the evening, traffic in the city was brutal. We were only stopping for the night and we didn’t realize how big this city is. The downtown is some blocks square between the huge beach with wild waves rolling in, and the port/marina where we would see the Sapphire Princess cruise ship up close in the morning. It was so busy we had trouble even finding an empty space to pull over to figure out what to do. We had to book a hotel room on the fly, as we hadn’t been certain where we would stop that night. I booked online, then called to ask where to park. I put the “marina parking parrote” location in my gps, and it came right up. The charge for 24 hours is a whopping 25 euros but the hotel will give you a discounted ticket for 20 euros. I think the hotel price was only 47 euros! If you’re driving, my advice would be to check out the various parking options of different hotels in advance, LOL. This pension is about two blocks from the garage, very doable. The staff was friendly and helpful and spoke some English (guaranteed nowhere in northern Spain). We loved the octopus/seafood restaurant they recommended (called Melide).
I wish we could have stayed a few days, especially at that pension price. The city was a wonderful surprise to us. It has the longest waterfront in Europe, worthy of a hike! And an awesome lighthouse that we only drove by. It seemed like something different and stylish or historic was around every corner. On our pedestrian street, 3-piece bands were playing on various corners. The port area was fun — check out the glassed-in apartments facing the water, which apparently have been featured in millions of ads.
This, by the way, is a great cruise ship stop. No need to pay for an excursion. Just get off the ship and wander around the beautiful old town.
If, however, you really don't care about the room itself, but are looking for a cheap room in a great, central location, then BAM! You've found it! This hostal is perfect for those who don't stay in the room for anything other than sleeping. It's about as perfect a location as you can find, right on the main pedestrian path. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. Probably the best attribute to this hotel is the price. An individual room with private bathroom was 25 Euros. Yep, you read that right. Twenty five smackers for an individual room with private bathroom. Seriously, the best deal I've ever seen for an individual room. Is it fancy? HELL NO. It's a room, with a bed and a window and a full bathroom. What more do you need? BUT IT's CHEAP! And in a perfect location. OH! And it was pretty darned quiet, too!
