The hotel A Quinta da Auga is the first eco luxury boutique hotel with spa in Santiago de Compostela. An 18th-century paper mill restored following the principles of environmental sustainability and aimed to create an unique place in which guests could stay surrounded by greenery, but with all the luxuries that a hedonist traveller tries to find in a four-star hotel: high gastronomy, impeccable service and high-quality spa treatments.

As soon as you enter the lobby you feel like in a palace, with a sophisticated decoration in a palace recovered from the ruins. They have managed to make guests feel the luxury of a palace with the facilities of a luxury hotel. In addition, it has a very complete spa and many measures are taken for safety against COVID. A good alternative to the Parador.

A beautifully renovated building. Our room was very comfortable with lovely views of the stream the hotel is located on. I did a week retreat here. The food was fantastic. We had wonderful smorgasbords for each meal. The service was fantastic. I arrived late due to a bus mix up and had missed my group, but the staff on reception rang our organizer and this allowed me to meet up with them.

My wife and I just completed a 3 night stay at this small hotel. Our room (409) was spacious and very peaceful, with a hotel constructed waterfall just outside. The king bed was the most comfortable we have had on our Spanish sojourn. The resort is very clean and the staff efficient and friendly. Breakfast was outstanding. Dinner reviewed separately (outstanding, by the way). The spa is very pricey (treatments) but you can book 90 minutes in the pool/sauna room as a couple for 60 euros. The location is fine - outside of the bustle of the city, but only an 8-10 euro cab away.

Stayed in 3 hotels in Galicia and Asturias and this was the worst. Situated at the end of a housing estate outside Santiago. We were put in a loft room with very low ceilings. To use the toilet you have to contort yourself as a man (I am not exaggerating) The double bed was very small. Only a double, not even a king. The room has no separate heating or cooling. The towels and bed linen smell heavily of bleach. Breakfast was good. The receptionist a little forgetful on one occasion. However, the building is full of character but honestly I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone for the price.

What we liked: atmosphere, gardens, lounges, furnishings and most of the staff were very good. Carlos the barman was superb probably the best we have ever had - he did everything to go the extra mile to make our visits to his bar that bit more enjoyable and as a result we spent more time in the bar ! the restaurant was also superb and good value. Fine dining at a sensible price - highly recommend eating in. What we didnt like: 5th floor room in the attic without a proper window. It was September but even then the room was too hot and the AC couldnt cope. I would absolutely insist on not being on 5th floor on any future visit. Another disappointment was that the Spa adjoining the hotel was chargeable at €28 per 90 minute visit. So just to take a dip in the pool its €28! Extra. This is unacceptable and should have been made clear at the time of booking. Another disappointment was breakfast, a poor selection for an establishment of this quality and the service was completely self serve even drinks - so it felt like hard work compared to other places we have stayed. The solo lady waitress seemed to have ‘attitude’ unlike all the other hotel staff - she needed more help and it showed. Would we book again? - not a 5th floor room and not until the hotel includes the swimming pool in the price. How about 1 free visit for each guest?
