This is my 2nd time in this hostal this trip - its a regular spot for me and ideally situated. It is just a few mins walk (max 5) from Gran Via station. Clean as always, very informal. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. See my other reviews for more information. Just putting this one here to say...

I have stayed here 6-7 times over the past 2 years, using it as a base for travels through Spain and elsewhere. My longest stay was almost a month! The staff are delightful, the rooms largish, bright and spotless with bed linen crisp and changed regularly, and the location is fantastically central. My only minor issues are that towels could...

Hi. I came back to this hostal, and stayed a total of 6 nights. Nothing has changed, excellent service, clean, wireless still works. Nice to be remembered too .... Double glazing and AC a real bonus, good nights sleep, no noise. This place is a real find, and so easy to get to everywhere - Gran Via metro is 4...

I arrived here after booking on the internet, through the hotel's own website. Email's were answered promptly, they confirmed a room with a double bed as per my request. On arrival - shown straight to room - small, VERY clean, with television, good internet connections, bathroom (small but clean, functional, halfbath/shower), balcony. The room has heating and A/C. I was...

It's an honest place that doesn't promise you anything but gives you all you need in a short stay in Madrid. We stayed there for 3 nights. The rooms are very small, with no luxeries but have a complete bathroom and were cleaned every day. It's located in Central Madrid, about 60 mt away from the metro station of Gran...

We stayed at the Hostal Vázquez de Mella only one night in October 2008, but loved it very much. The two-star hotel is located at central Madrid, which is close to many places of attraction. The double room was basic, with twin beds, a small TV, a basic bathroom, a safe box and balcony. There was no air-con, but it...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
