The hostel location is great, right in the heart of Madrid. On the other hand the place continuously smells of food ( and not the good kind). One very hot Madrid night I asked for the air conditioning remote to turn it on in my room but the owner told me that air conditioning was only available during the summer....

Hostal Palacios is perfectly situated on the Fuencarral street where there is a lot of boutiques for shopping. It is located between the metro stations Gran Via and Tribunal in the city center. Many bars and restaurants are at a walking distance from the hostal in the Chueca and Sol neighborhoods. The staff is really sweet, they only speak spanish....

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
