I have visited this hostal multiple times, and it is my top recommendation when friends ask me about accommodations in Madrid. It is clean, well located, affordable and safe! If you are looking for fancy, this is not for you, but if you (like me) rather spend your money on great restaurants and museums, this is the way to do... More

The location of this hostel is epic. Its on Gran Via. This is the broadway of Madrid. The hostal is in an old traditional building with alot of hostals. Victor and Maria are the mom and dad of your vacation stay. They have huge hearts. I love them. They were so friendly and caring. It felt like home.the room is... More

Great little budget hotel in a great location. Close to amenities and public transport. Rooms are a little on the small side but clean and well looked after. Staff is extremely friendly although they don't speak English. This was a problem on one occasion where there was miscommunication about our check out date. Beside this minor issue, staying there was... More

This is a great hostal if your on a budget. The location was perfect it was very central. It was 1 minute walk from the metro, right in the shopping district and close to all the attractions. if you are doing the hop on hop off bus tour, there is a stop right beside the hotel so you can always... If you're for a clean, budget and very central location in Madrid I think Hostal Galaico is perfect! It's on the Gran Via (close to Calle Montera) and the family that rules the hotel is very kind. Just don't know if they speak English (I think they do) because I'm good at Spanish and always had a very good chat... More

Stayed for 2 nights, it was perfectly fine and we thought quite good value considering its location - walking distance to pretty much everything! Triple room was huge and very clean but of course very basic but who cares? We are in Europe fr the experience not the decor! Staff spoke very little English but were super friendly and we... More

I stayed at the Hostal Galaico for a little weekend vacation in Dec 2011. The location is very good! It's right on the Gran Via, in the city center. The main shopping district and many of Madrid's beautiful museums and other sights are within walking distance, or can be reached easily by public transport. It's about three minutes walk to... Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
