Stayed here during a weekend and had a lovely time. It was right in the middle off everything, so it was a perfect starting point when exploring the city. It was very clean but simple. Something we were dissapointed with was the fact that it was hard to get a hold off the staff since the lobby was almost always...

This hostel is superbly located a one minute walk from Sol Plaza. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bathroom areas were clean and well presented. The only negative would be that there was a clear line of site between our room (5) and the main reception area and we weren't able to close or block this window at...

Excellent location, clean and quiet. No aircon, a problem in the heat. Good for the price. Room had private toilet, bathroom next door. About 200 m from Sol, a lot of good eating and drinking places in the neighborhood. Eating bar Serafina on ground floor in the same building is fab.

Room was spacious, which was nice, with a bathroom nearby. Had some issues with the wifi, but luckily we had our own 3G connection. Lack of fan/air con was a major issue on hot days/evenings. Location excellent, very central, and we happily walked to most sights.

We spent four nights in Apolo XI and enjoyed every minute. Room was cleaned every day so the toilets, staff were friendly and helpful. Most importantly hostel is situated in centre of picturesque city just minutes away from buzzing little streets full of local tapas bars and restaurants.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
