I stayed at this hotel for around 3 weeks on a business trip. The cost was company negotiated so I guess, I payed less that what is available. The hotel is at great location with 2 mins walk to Metro Station, Gram Via, MacD, Starbucks, Princesa Cinema. The whole street is full of Restaurants and bars where one can have...

We booked this for our first night in Madrid as we were arriving on a Sunday and it was convenient to El Rastro and to where we were picking up our car the next day (Sixt at Hotel Tirol). AND the price was right at 105 Euros. We arrived around 9:00 a.m. after getting in from the States. The front...

We stayed for 3 nights in May as a part of trip dedicated to the 4th anniversary of our wedding. Prior to coming I wrote the letter to the hotel mentioning our anniversary and they informed us that we will be provided with the nice room with rose for my wife and bottle of Cava (their famous sparkling wine). The...

No complaints -- if you get a good rate here, it's an excellent place to stay. Because they're part of the Accor chain, they often run promotions which deliver great value. Check their website and kayak for possibilities. Right off the Plaza de Espana, with lots of restaurants very close by. One change of trains on the Metro to the...

I found out about this hotel in a guidebook, and happened to stumble across a very good deal- three nights for the price of two, including breakfast. It is in an excellent location, within minutes of Plaza de Espana, and two Metro stops, as well as a bus stop, with frequent local city buses to many parts of Madrid. Many...

On the outside the building is rather dull. As mentioned in reviews before the furnitute especially the cupboards look a bit tired and the carpets though clean, have seen better days. The beds were very soft but that is a personal dislike rather than a citicism. However, the staff at the reception desk are friendly and professional and the check...

We were really lucky to stumble on a promotion: stay two nights get the third free. It was a great value. The hotel used to be classified as a Sofitel, but was downgraded to a Mercure (within this family of Accor hotels). It had the feel of a 3 to 4 star quality. Right in the heart of Madrid, this...

The Mercure is located nearby Plaza de Espana. It is a good location but not in the middle of where it all happens. But Madrid is not that big, so you can reach all touristic attractions by foot. The hotel itself had wonderful rooms: very spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed was very good: big and soft. Unfortunately you can...

Stayed here for just one night. Tucked away near lots of tiny bars & restaurants. The hotel was comfortable and clean & the staff were helpful. It is a short walk away from the Plaza de Espana, and not much further away are the Royal Palaces. Although slightly away from the City centre, I've stayed in this area before and...

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
