Everything perfect. The hostel is well located, few minutes from Gran Via. It is very clean and they offer you a small breakfast which was very suitable when you are in a hurry. The price was very cheap compared with the accommodation in Madrid. The only inconvenient was that we didn't see any air conditioning. It was hot at night

Over the past 7 years I've stayed at Don Juan on many occasions, so much so that I feel I'm the best person possible to offer an honest and true review of how exceptional this hotel actually is. Please do not be confused, although this establishment is referred to in Spain as a hostel, in the UK it would easily...

19 years ago since last visit and 25 years since my first stay there. I noticed that there has been a change of the positive kind but still the same family taking care of the place. One difference was the access of coffe and some bread - which we didn't use - and a computer in the same room. Very...

Don Juan Antonio has operated this hostal for over 30 years and it shows. He cares about his guests. It's not really what we think of as a "hostal for hippie travelers" but more like a small, well-run budget (for Spain and the Euro) hotel. You can't make reservations online. You have to call and give a credit card number....

Beautiful two floors hostal, marvellous antiques in every corner of the corridors, although the rooms are more basic (no A/C, which I guess will be a problem during Summer...) Very quiet, cheap rates, and in the heart of Chueca!

Like this place because of it's funny interiorstyle and location in the heart of the city. My room was small but pretty and clean. Stuff was friendly an helpful and the night was quiet. Would stay there again or head to the old jewish quarter...

We stayed for two night, using three rooms - two with double and one with single occupancy. I have stayed at this hostal many times, and have always been very satisfied with the rooms, the situation and the price. I found that I could have found - because it was such low season - better rooms in better hotels and...

Wonderful location, two blocks from La Gran Via, easy walk to most tourist locations or public transport to same. The small square it sits on has a lot of charm with plenty of small places to eat and drink. Well kept public areas nicely furnished with a great variety of antiques and quirky adornments. Rooms do need to be upgraded,...

I stayed at Hostal Don Juan from August 20 - 25, 2012, and found it to be ideal... a very good price, centrally located, clean, very nicely furnished with many antiques, and comfortable, with a very friendly and helpful staff. Only a 20-minute taxi ride to the airport. I would recommend this hotel to anybody going to Madrid, and would...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
