Nestled in the heart of Madrid, the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá receives accolades for its serene yet central location, with major attractions within easy reach. Guests rave about the luxurious comfort of the rooms and the hotel's clean and elegant ambiance, complemented by live music.
The staff's professionalism contributes to a memorable stay, though some have noted service discrepancies. While the Red Level amenities, including the rooftop pool, add to the allure, opinions on value suggest that some find the pricing steep, particularly for breakfast, parking, and rooms with less impressive views.

Wonderful hotel in the Best possible situation of Madrid, a few meters from the royal palace, the Almudena Cathedral, the royal theater and the Puerta del Sol, (walking 5 minutes). The attention of the Staff is exquisite from the moment you enter until you leave, between all make the stay a beautiful unforgettable experience. From what my family members tell me, it is the kind of treatment that was given in the good hotels of the 70s/80s (which today has practically been lost). The rooms are very well soundproofed, very clean and spacious, the decor is very elegant and inspired by paintings by Velázquez. Regarding the Gastronomy offer a variety of premium products, they have a beautiful garden where you can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere in the heart of the capital. They also have a terrace on the seventh floor with wonderful views of the Almudena Cathedral and royal palace, as well as a swimming pool and spa area, (it is now closed for the season). In short, if you want to spend an unforgettable stay I recommend this wonderful hotel. Cheers.

I really love this hotel. It is beautifully done in a quirky, but regal style. Located in an old magnificent Palazzo, the hotel is close to the palace, the park, and within walking distance, everything you could do during a long weekend in Madrid! The hotel has a beautiful courtyard that is appointed with a small restaurant and it’s great to sit in the afternoon and have a cocktail. I I recommend this luxury hotel that is perfectly located and has all the amenities. A luxury hotel should have. The staff is helpful and courteous, and always looking out for you. The rooms are well appointed and beautifully designed, not to mention, extremely comfortable.

Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques is a truly spectacular hotel that offers a luxurious experience from the moment you arrive. The friendly and welcoming staff set the tone, ensuring a smooth check-in process enhanced by a delightful welcome drink. The hotel staff went above and beyond, assisting with our luggage and even providing a secure storage option as we explored the beautiful city of Madrid.
The hotel’s location is incredibly convenient, placing you within walking distance of numerous attractions. During our winter holiday visit, the nearby Christmas market—just a block away—was a delightful highlight. Most destinations are accessible on foot, though the surrounding area does include a few gentle hills, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Despite its central location, the hotel provides a peaceful retreat, free from city noise, ensuring restful nights.
The dining options are exceptional. Breakfast is a must-try, featuring an impressive array of offerings to suit all dietary preferences, from personalized French and Spanish omelets to delicious avocado toast, complemented by fresh-squeezed juices and a wide selection of fruits. For lunch, Jardín Restaurant showcases the best of Madrid’s culinary traditions, using local ingredients to create unique and flavorful dishes. Highlights include fried pig ears and a rich tripe, paw, and snout stew—each dish artfully presented and bursting with flavor.
A special mention goes to Paula, an outstanding restaurant leader whose attentive, kind, and friendly service made our dining experience unforgettable. Her warm personality and genuine care for guests set her apart, and I am confident she has a bright future ahead. Valentina and Francisco also deserve recognition for their leadership, fostering a team dynamic that is both professional and collegial.
Thank you to the entire team at Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques for a fabulous stay. I will most certainly return!

2nd stay in this superb hotel where the maintenance is excellent. As soon as you enter, the doorman greets you with his right hand on your heart, as will all the employees at your disposal. We were registered at the “Red Level” club with a personalized reception with a glass of excellent brand champagne. Very efficient services for reservations or advice of all kinds. The lounges are superb as is the winter garden reserved for Red Level guests where you can enjoy the day and evening various original savory or sweet appetizers accompanied by a large selection of drinks, without or with alcohol including an excellent raw champagne. Access to the rooms is felted due to a well-kept carpet. Our junior suite was very quiet, with comfortable bedding with high quality pillows; the bar was extremely well stocked and had a rare range of glasses. A small technical problem was immediately fixed. The bathroom was, however, cramped with, however, a separate toilet and a shower difficult to use due to the magnificent bath too close. Only little flat! The living area was comfortable with a sofa and armchair that were conducive to relaxation. The new restaurant displays a menu of very well executed and tasty regional dishes with a wine list to match. In short, a very high class hotel where it is good to stay.

Loved our recent stay at this hotel. It is a beautiful hotel; stunningly decorated but not over the top, with class and elegance. Our check in was very smooth and welcoming, we were offered a glass of champagne whilst checking in, how lovely. I had booked a standard room but upon checking in was informed that we have been given a complimentary upgrade to a premium room, what a pleasant surprise! Our room was very spacious with all the amenities that you’ll expect from a top notch hotel. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. There were free bottles of water in the room, can request for more bottles. Bathroom was spacious too with a double wash basin and a bath tub. Every evening there is a turndown service. Location wise it was very central and very near to all the tapas restaurants and shopping areas.Even the famous street Cava Baja for tapas is nearby. The staff were very warm and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, too bad we stayed only for 3 nights but we will be back

This hotel lies in the Madrid de los Austrias, next to the Royal Palace and the Almudena in the heart of old Madrid city. The location is extremely convenient to walk to major attractions which we explored. We had opted for their 'Red Level' lounge access room. We were promptly checked in by their front desk staff who had already kept the room ready and honored our request for the lowest floor. The room itself was spacious and very comfortable. The lounge is located at their ground floor and has excellent offerings though out the day. When the staff found out that we are vegetarians, they made special effort to make vegetarian dishes for us. We really appreciate it and thank them for it. The buffet breakfast spread is also vast and delicious. Overall the hotel has an excellent ambience. Their outdoor restaurant is superb and served us delicious vegetarian food. Overall, the entire stay was beyond expectation and the staff: front desk, housekeeping, lounge, Bell, Restaurant made it exceptional. Please Keep it up!

All staff greet you courteously and are helpful and friendly, they represent the hotel very well from concierge, reception, dining staff, bar staff and maids. Consistently kind. The room was spacious and had excellent themed decor. The double bed was massive and had soft and comfortable bedding. Internet was easy to connect to and seemed to have good usage speed. The bathroom was very clean and had a bath tub, walk in shower with rainfall shower as well as a removable shower head. The shower was lovely and hot and a great refresher after a day out exploring in the sunshine. The buffet breakfast had a vast selection of foods from the hot type of bacon, eggs, hash brown etc, toast, juices, fruit, cereals, meats and cheeses. Plus a small menu of individual items to be made on demand. The rooftop bar is a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset and then the subsequent night time views. The hotel is in a great location for exploring and I would highly recommend a stay here when visiting Madrid.

Stayed for a week while visiting Madrid, used to live in the city so not my first time there, but it was my first time at the hotel, usually stay at the Meliá Fénix but wanted to try something new. Very glad I did. Service was superb, location is very centric and short walk to many of the major tourist attractions, few steps from the Teatro Real and Royal Palace, but on a quiet street with many restaurants attended by locals, not usual tourist traps. Had a Red Level Room so could snack at lunch and dinner on the lounge, I essentially ate there since the small plates were so good. The room was very comfortable and while Madrid was experiencing a heatwave with temperatures close to 100F (38°), the room stayed at a nice 22° or below. Room was huge, and the walk in closet had a lot of space. The terrace on the roof was perfect for views of Madrid, had a plunge pool and jacuzzi that I never used but looked very inviting, there was also a lifeguard always present which impressed me. One thing my room did not have were views, If you are looking for sweeping views of Madrid this is not the best hotel for that, it’s in the “old Madrid” where buildings are not very tall, but have to say never missed them, just had to go to the terrace and have a sweeping view of Madrid and the Sierra, with good binoculars you may be able to see El Escorial and Valley of the Fallen in the distance. Breakfast was superb, there was buffet but you could also order a la carte. Excellent eggs Benedict, and never go wrong with a mimosa to start the day. The bathroom was also good, if a little cramped. Something to consider is that the shower is separated from room by a wall of glass, with a curtain on bedroom side for privacy. I was by myself so not an issue, but if families something to consider. The bathtub inside the shower was huge and made taking a bath very easy, rain shower also very nice. Regarding parking, I arrived driving from Bilbao, Madrid traffic has not changed, avoid if you can. As I said hotel is in the old Madrid so road to hotel is also small but it’s part of the fun of traveling. The parking does not belong to Hotel, it’s right down the street few steps away and open 24h, can’t recall how much was for 24h but I decided to return car earlier since public transport is excellent all throughout Spain but specially in Madrid. Took a taxi to the airport that hotel arranged and went very smoothly, right on time. Metro stations are few steps away also, either downhill in Opera, or few steps uphill in Santo Domingo station. I will definitely recommend and plan to return when I’m back in Madrid.

I took my 4 year old son on a long weekend to Madrid and many of the options central in the city seemed quite cramped as you’d expect - but we were pleasantly surprised at how spacious our room was (think was one up from the regular size) - very modern, TV with HDMI input (for our own movies when the little one was tired), beautiful art and aesthetic (and fragrance) throughout.
The staff were wonderful, they let us use their luxury Mercedes several times to get to our destinations, and the concierge was super helpful.
Food was great, a lot of “off-menu” items to ask for my picky muncher but it was all tasty and again the overall decor and aesthetic even with the dishes just kept sustaining those opulent vibes.
Location wise it was an easy walk to all of the places we wanted to go, a few minutes from the palace and under 10 minutes from Sol or the Gran Via for all the hustle and bustle, but the hotel itself is just slightly tucked outside.
Also, for anyone with little ones, there’s a small public park literally right outside.
Only issue I had with the hotel was that the swimming pool wasn’t open as this is still Winter - and whilst understandable - it was one of the reasons I booked as it wasn’t clear it was closed - but it doesn’t deter from my review as I probably just missed it.
For my next European city break I definitely want to find other hotels like this one!

This hotel is pretty but not quite certain what it wants to be. During check-in, the front desk person immediately tried to sell us an upgrade. My take is if the hotel is not full and you want me like the hotel and recommend it, give me a complementary upgrade. I found this to be a cheap technique. Parts of the hotel look elegant, but the rooms are full of metal cabinets and cheap table and chairs. The room was very small, and the bathroom was exceedingly tiny. In fact, our room here was smaller and more expensive than our hotel in Barcelona, and the one in Barcelona was a luxury hotel. The shower space between the tub and wall was so small it was dangerous. There was no storage in the bathroom beyond a tiny shelf. I took the hair dryer and spare towel out of the only drawer to give us some extra space. There were two good size closets and plenty of drawers. We were told that we could drink the water from the bathroom, but it was well chlorinated. We were never told that we would be given bottled water in the evening so we bought our own at a local store. I believe that we were given the wrong room. I paid for a premium room and based on the pictures online, I was given a classic room. Room service brought a special snack meant for a business group to our room. I called downstairs but they had us keep the treat as they couldn't give it to anyone else. When my husband looked at our room account online, it showed that our room was unoccupied. After I spoke with the front desk about all of these issues, they had a complementary bottle of champagne brought to our room. The head bellman, Hector, was very accommodating. Most of the staff were very polite and tried to make our visit comfortable. Still, this did not make up for all of the issues or the small room. We had a drink at the outdoor lounge and restaurant, The Terrace. We got our drinks but when a group of around twenty came for dinner, our server never reappeared to see how we were doing. They obviously could not handle such a large group. Additionally, The Terrace is open to the street so anyone can just walk in. Although this hotel is centrally located to the palace and the Gran Via, we would never stay here again.
